READ ME!!! Many new mac users find they are unable to write to their external hard drive when they first start using their computer. There are 2 solutions to this problem: Either reformat the drive or purchase software below. I go through both options in this video. NTFS for MAC OS X software: www.paragon-software.com Enjoy! Thank you so much! I’m new to Macs and am still using my Lenovo as my PC. I was really mortified when I tried to copy music to my Seagate 500GB (since I’m keeping my music for the Mac’s itunes on the external) and couldn’t. So I’ve had to wait a few hours for files to transfer, but it’s better this way with an easy fix. thank you again!
@AHHHjane it depends how much data you have on your original hdd but I would use about 250gb for time machine to start off with….nowadays I have a 1tb drive with 500gb for time machine for my imac. my laptop has less stuff on so I only use 250 for that…hope this helps
thanks, this worked perfectly =]
If I have a 500 gb external hard drive, how much space should I reserve for my Time Machine partition?
@mcleaver this was meant to help beginners i.e. people with very little computer experience at all so I wanted to explain everything in detail. as you can see most of the feedback has been positive but I’m sorry if this video disappointed you
Open disk utility, reformat as FAT and Bob’s your uncle. Does that take 9 minutes?
Thanks man, This was great… It helped me so much…
FAT doesnt allow files greater that 4GB to transfer
