REVIEW: HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition [HD]

www.digitalhomethoughts.com UPDATE Here’s the Q&A interview with my wife and what she thought of this netbook: tinyurl.com This is my review of the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition netbook. It runs Windows XP SP3, and in the configuration I was sent, costs $724 USD directly from HP. It has an Intel 1.6 Ghz Atom CPU, 1 GB of RAM, a 60 GB 4200 RPM hard drive, an SDHC card reader, two USB ports, 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 3-cell battery. Watch for the follow-up Q&A review with the person who has used this most…my wife!

    just wanted to know if there’s a vivienne tam 6cell battery, that is if i want to upgrade from the 3cell it comes with, that matches the netbook….

    @zerohp I’ve never had to do that, so I’m not sure…if you have an external CD/DVD drive, right? And it’s not recognizing the discs? That either means you have bad discs or a bad CD/DVD drive…could be either one.

    Thanks a bunch!

    @AnnaMaeBullock There is no dual-core version of the HP Mini 1000. The Atom CPU is multi-threaded, meaning two threads, so maybe if someone didn’t know any better they’d think it was two cores…but it’s not. There is a dual-core Atom CPU out there, but it’s never shipped in any version of an HP Mini. So please don’t pay more for something that doesn’t exist – there was only ever one version of the Vivienne Tam Mini 1000.

    I’m considering paying an extra $100 for a used one with a “dual core” configured processor. I’ve looked at others with no mention of what type of configuration their processor has. So I’m wondering is “dual core” the standard configuration for this model or an upgraded configuration that will outperform other units, and thus worth the extra money, if all other components are equal? BTW, I know the 2010 has better specs but I am female, color struck and emotionally attached to this one. Thx

    Can you be a bit more specific about the webcam?

    @IchigoGee
    One of the problems though is the lack of a disk drive, so you’ll have to install it with usb. Which ain’t too bad. It’s pretty simple and I actually prefer it much better.

  12. IchigoGee says:

    Thanks :) .
    Useful and clear videos, by the way. Good job!

  13. ThoughtsMedia says:

    Yes, Windows 7 works quite nicely on it.

  14. IchigoGee says:

    I know you get it with XP, but is it possible to install Windows7 on it? (I’m a student and my university provides it, so it’d be nice to actually be able to use it!)

  24. NitrelRacing100 says:

  25. ThoughtsMedia says:

    Yes, you can, but you need software to do it – Picasa is a free program that allows you to record videos from a Webcam.
