Introducing Microsoft Operating Systems Includes Windows Vista, Xp, 2000, Nt, 3.1 and Dos

It’s been a long time coming. Microsoft hasn’t released a new consumer operating system since Windows XP came out in October, 2001. Now, nearly six years later, Windows has once again been polished, modernized and buffed to a glossy sheen for a newer consumer era. Windows Vista is here.

Windows XP was a big deal for the Windows family. Although Microsoft continued to release consumer operating systems built upon the Windows 95 kernel (including Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me), it targeted only businesses and power users with its NT kernel offerings such as Windows NT and Windows 2000.

There was a difference. For backward compatibility to the days of MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 computing, Microsoft stuck with the 9x kernel for consumers. That kernel was an intricate meshwork of 16-bit (DOS) and 32-bit (NT) code that never truly abandoned the DOS conventions and never fully took advantage of the pure 32-bit power. The NT kernel, however, was built to be a 32-bit monster from the start, without the ambition to run 16-bit Windows 3.1 software or the thousands of games released for DOS. In 2001, Windows XP brought the parallel lines of Windows business and consumer operating systems together at last. With its Compatibility Modes, it was able to run some DOS and Windows 3.1 software, but because the computing world had started its move to 32-bit in 1995, there wasn’t as much demand for backward compatibility. Windows XP proved to be far more stable than any of the 9x flavors (especially the justifiably hated Windows Me), and it was multimedia-friendly and an excellent platform for gaming.

And aren’t multimedia and gaming what computers are all about?

How to Reset / Recover Forgotten Windows NT / 2000 / XP / 2003/VISTA Administrator Password?

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.

1st Method:

The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account “Administrator” and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:

Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it’ll show Classic Login box. Now type “Administrator” (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.

Now you can reset your account password from “Control Panel -> User Accounts”.

Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:

There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available.

Windows password recovery tool:

but I’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password.

You can use the ISO to burn a boot CD. Follow these instructions:

1. Download ISO file from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com Windows Password Recovery Tool
2. Burn to a CD using a CD burning tool such as Nero or Roxio or MagicISO
3. Insert CD into drive and reboot.
4. You may have to select an option in the BIOS to get the computer to boot from the CD.

Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

Partitions Inaccessibile After Server Exception Error in Windows 2000

After the mini-port drivers, class drivers and SCSI disk are initialized during Windows boot process, the system queries the BIOS for drive translation. The general value returned by most of the SCSI devices is 255 heads and 63 sectors for each track. Windows 2000 uses this value as default when the SCSI adapter BIOS is turned off. Windows NT also performs similar kind of computation while such situations, but uses smaller values. For this reason, you might encounter several issues after you upgrade your system to Windows 2000, when the drive translation feature is turned off. The partition table might get corrupt if you try to alter it anyway, for example when attempting to create or delete a disk partition. However, to restore such partitions, it is suggested to apply a valid data backup or use Partition Recovery Software to extract them.

To exemplify, consider an instance when you try to use Disk Management to delete or create a new logical drive in extended partition of your Windows 2000 based computer. The operation might fail with the below error message:

The Server Threw an Exception”

You cannot access the logical drives of the extended partition after this error message occurs. The drives are either lost or damaged.

Cause

The error primarily occurs when you use a Windows 2000 system that has been upgraded from Windows NT 4.0. If the drive translation feature is turned off or the drive has been moved to a controller position where no drive translation is performed, the differences in ways Windows 2000 and NT handle drive translation can cause the drives to render inaccessible. This happens because Disk Management needs to perform few modifications in disk partition table.

Solution

  • To prevent such situations from occurring, it is suggested that you install all the latest updates available for your operating system.

  • For already lost and damaged logical drives, you should check your backup to achieve recovery. If no suitable backup is present or its proves invalid for any reason, you need to opt for a Partition Recovery utility. Partition Recovery Software come with advanced scanning algorithms, graphically rich user interface and powerful features that allow for complete recovery results.

Data Recovery Software is a professional and reliable Partition Recovery tool with advanced options and features. It is a safe utility that supports Windows 7 RC1, Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000 based systems. The tool provides you advanced features like Append Header, RAW File Recovery, Save Scan and more.

Cachemov Fails on a Windows 2000 System

Client Side Caching or CSC is a feature included in Windows Server operating systems that allows storing frequently used information on a client computer. Using this functionality increases client computer’s performance as it can now quickly access the file, which otherwise would have been accessed from server. Cachemov.exe is a utility of Windows 2000 Resource Kit that you can use to move the CSC data to a different location. But sometimes, you might fail to use this utility while attempting to move CSC data to a drive. This occurs if it is formatted to NTFS file system. The solution to such problems involve a step that requires you to reformat the volume that causes data loss. In such cases if data backup proves to be invalid to restore the lost data, you will need to use a third-party data recovery software.

To illustrate this, consider that you use localised version of Windows 2000 operating system. You try to use Cachemov.exe tool in order to move cache data to a NTFS formatted drive. But the process fails at ‘Check the Destination’ stage and you come across the below error message:

Failed to reset security on cache. Move cannot continue.”

You cannot move the cache data at even subsequent attempts of doing so.

Cause

This issue occurs because the cache move operation requires ACL (Access Control List) to be built for the new folder. To perform this task, Cachemov.exe tool doesn’t use popular Security ID (SID), but uses Administrators group name. Hence, when you try to use the tool on localized version of Windows 2000 operating system, the tool fails as it cannot find the group name on this system.

Solution

To successfully use Cachmov.exe tool to move the cache data on localized Windows 2000 system, you need to follow these steps:

  • Change Administrators group name to ‘Administrators’

  • You then need to create an ‘Administrators’ group that you can use to populate with desired members and add to Access Control List of the folder using Full Control rights

  • Next, reformat the target volume using FAT16 or FAT32 file system and set the folder’s security feature to default for local CSC folder

  • Create the following registry key:

HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionNetCache
Value: DatabaseLocation
Type: REG_SZ
Data: Path to CSC working directory

  • Restore lost data from backup

If backup is invalid to offer complete data restoration results, use a powerful data recovery utility. Data Recovery Software recover all the lost data while logical crashes and also serve as efficient undelete products.

Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery is a reliable and advanced data recovery tool to recover lost data. It supports Windows 7 RC1, Vista, XP, 2003 and 2000 operating systems.
