Unboxing my Alienware M17x SPECS: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 4gb DDR3 1066 MHz RAM 1TB RAID 0 1x nVidia GeForce GTX 260M Blu-Ray slot loaded optical drive 1920 x 1200 WUXGA screen 3 year warranty Approx. $3070 total (including tax and fees) Just graduated college and am still poor, so I couldn’t get all the highest specs, but since I’m primarily a console gamer, it should do. Common questions: Q: How long did it take to get your M17x? A: Approximately 3 weeks. Dell predicted it would take 4 weeks because the WUXGA 1980×1200 screen was on backorder, though it came one week earlier than that. Q: What does the ship date mean? A: As far as I can tell, that is when the M17x will leave Dell to be shipped to you. I don’t think this is the predicted arrival date of your M17x. Q: How is it? A: It’s great! I did run into some problems when upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, though almost all of those issues disappeared when I did a clean install of Windows 7. Other than that, it plays games amazingly, and it is beautiful of course. When you bring it to a cafe and everyone has their Macbook Pros, it feels like having a Ferrari in a room full of Mercedes. More powerful and sexier Q: Why do I need such a powerful laptop? A: Gaming of course. On top of that, I’m an engineer, so I do a lot of 3D modeling and number crunching. Also good for HD video editing (just got my hands on a Creative Vado HD).
