Me noodling around on my Acer Aspire One A150 running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.5 with some custom kexts to get 1024×600 res, stock audio and wired ethernet working. Machine is stock, no hardware mods (yet) but shows that the Atom netbook platform can do quite a bit with the right software – near-zero audio latency thanks to Core Audio. I threw some patterns together in Garage Band and flew them into Logic Pro 8. All the backing tracks are playing back live in Logic Audio. The keyboard is an M-Audio Axiom 61. Download the BIOS from: www.acerpanam.com 1: Extract the .ZIP 2: Rename the Bios name from 3309.fd to zg5ia32.fd 3: Copy zg5ia32.fd and Flashit.exe to USB flash drive. 4: A: Make sure the power cable is in! B: The laptop is turned OFF! C: Plug the USB stick in! Press and HOLD down the FN and ESC key TOGETHER Then press the power button, Whilst holding the buttons! Release the power button and continue holding FN and ESC for about 5 seconds. Release the buttons and the power light will start to blink. Let the laptop run and DO NOT press anything This can take upto 7 mins When it’s done the laptop will restart. It should now work This is for the Acer Aspire One netbook laptop.

This is an Acer aspireone AOA150-Aw loaded with Windows 7 Ultimate Edition which is available to download from Microsoft. As you can see, it is quite fast for a small, agile computer and has no problems keeping up with Window’s large footprint. I will put the Windows Rating in the description in the next couple of days. I installed Windows 7 using a Flash Voyager 4Gb formatted with FAT32. NTFS also works as most tutorials on the web insist on using NTFS. Let me point out that I am using the 120GB Hard Disk Drive version… NOT THE SSD. I am not sure whether Windows 7 offers FAT32 and therefore cannot give SSD users any real recommendations i’m afraid. Here is how I did it on Windows XP. 1. Firstly, navigate to www.ezbsystems.com and download the free trial of ultraiso, then install it. 2. Using ultraiso, open the .ISO of Windows 7. The latest being 7100.0.090421-1700_x86fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culfrer_en_dvd.iso. 3. Click Bootable at the top and click Write Disk Image. 4. Select your preferred USB device. Leave the Write Method as USB-HDD+. 5 (optional). If you have not already done so, format the drive (bottom left of the Write Disk window) using whichever method you prefer. FAT32 and NTFS both seem to work. 6. Click Write. Be prepared to wait a while. Once it has finished, you now have a bootable drive. This can be used to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate install by any machine which has USB boot. It can also be used to perform upgrades from Windows XP/Vista etc. 7. To begin the install onto the aspireone… back up and save whatever files are necessary. This is pretty important as I recommend formatting the drive to install Windows 7. 8. Plug in the drive and restart the machine. Press F12, just before the Acer BIOS screen logo on boot. 9. You should be given three options. You want to boot from USB. It will most likely have a name such as Corsair Voyager etc. 10. Once Windows 7 has finished unpacking its files, you should see the Welcome screen pop up. Set your preferred settings and click next. Follow the instructions through as prompted. I recommend doing a Manual/Clean install rather than an Upgrade. If you do decide to take this option, I also recommend formatting your hard drive. This will be under partition options etc. Once you have completed these steps, sit back or go and watch some TV. It should take around 15 minutes and shouldn’t require any intervention until first boot when you will be required to enter a username and password. Enjoy! Inside this laptop there is a 512 MB ram soldered in the mainboard, so you can only add a PC4200 533 Mhz 512 MB / 1024 MB module. Wifi is WORKING on the Acer Aspire One. Just follow the steps and it should work. It is more stable than you think. I am using iATKOS 5i OSX Leopard 10.5.5.
