class="align-left" style="border: 0px none; margin-left: 20px; margin-top: 5px; float: right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/AnybodyOutThere03.png" border="0" alt="anybodyoutthere" /> class="vt-p" title="AnybodyOutThere" href="http://www.anybodyoutthere.com">AnybodyOutThere is a chat platform unlike any other. While other sites will throw you into a chatroom full with strangers or find you a random chat partner to pass the time with, AnybodyOutThere was created to find you a match for whatever you want to talk about. The idea is to foster real-time human interaction and find you a person with similar interests, someone who can help you solve a problem, or give advice.

There are many ways you can approach using AnybodyOutThere. You can ask fun questions, talk about serious stuff, or make friends. Here are a few reasons why to use AnyBodyOutThere and how to go about it.

id="more-57607">

1. You Don’t Need To Sign Up

You can use AnybodyOutThere without ever signing up. You will be able to post a topic you want to chat about, browse what other people want to talk about, and finally chat with someone. However, you won’t have access to some additional features, like searching for or adding friends.

If you do decide you want to sign up and use extra features, you can either create an account with AnybodyOutThere or you can use your existing Facebook account to sign in. That’s pretty convenient!

2. It’s Easy To Find People To Chat With

It’s easy to find someone interesting based on what they want to talk about. You can browse class="vt-p" title="What People Want To Talk About" href="http://www.anybodyoutthere.com/talk">‘What other people want to talk about‘ and find an inspiring topic or a question you can help with. If the most recent results are just not what you’re looking for, you can select tags or filter your results by age range, country, keywords, and username.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/AnybodyOutThere01.png" border="0" alt="anybodyoutthere" />

If you’re unsure someone is right, review their profile and see what type of questions they have asked before. Just click their chat name. This may give you an idea of whether or not they are a good fit for your question.

3. You Can Let Others Find You

If you are in need, rather than looking for people, you can post your own question or problem and let others get in touch with you. You are restricted to 110 characters.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/AnybodyOutThere02.png" border="0" alt="anybody out there" />

Your question will be published on the talk page mentioned above. This way other people know what you want to talk about and can message you.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/AnybodyOutThere04.png" border="0" alt="anybody out there" />

AnybodyOutThere will also analyze and tag your question and suggest a list of people to talk to. If you get the wrong types of responses or if the tags don’t seem right, you can edit your post to receive a better match.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/AnybodyOutThere05.png" border="0" alt="anybody out there" />

4. Questions Can Receive Comments

You can chat with people one on one, however, what if no one who is online can help you? People can comment on your question! So even if no expert is available right now, they may spot your question later on and provide an answer.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/AnybodyOutThere06.png" border="0" alt="anybodyoutthere" />

Creative questions can also turn into outright discussions as the class="vt-p" title="Female Orgasm" href="http://www.anybodyoutthere.com/users/stickler/p858665-the_female_orgasm_is_a_myth">example above illustrates.

To be notified of comments after you leave the page, sign up. Notifications will land in your AnybodyOutThere inbox. This way you can keep track of any responses that were made to your questions.

5. You Can Make Friends

style="border: 0px none;margin-left:20px;float:right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/AnybodyOutThere07.png" />Finally, a great reason to use AnybodyOutThere is a to make chat friends. For this last one you have to create a profile or log in using your Facebook account.

When you’re having a conversation with a someone, you can vote for them. For example if you’re enjoying the chat, give them a thumbs up. Likewise, you can give a thumbs down if you’re not happy. You can also add people to your contact list and stay in touch with them.

Conclusion

AnybodyOutThere comes with several great features. However, to fully appreciate this service, you must understand that it focuses on matching people based on a certain topic, rather than just matching people based on vital stats or randomly. This is what makes it stand out above general chatrooms like Yahoo Chat or other one-on-one chat platforms like ChatRoulette.

    Spicebird – An Email Client That Integrates A Calendar, Chat & iGoogle

    class="align-left" style="border: 0px none; margin-left: 20px; margin-top: 5px; float: right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/spicebirdlogo.jpg" alt="spicebird" />We have reviewed a number of class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/free-email-clients-windows-7/">free email clients before. There is the ever so popular class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/thunderbird/">Thunderbird, there is Evolution for Linux and then there is Outlook for Windows. An area where Outlook scores fair and square over the other email clients out there is the fact that it integrates common email-related tasks and thus takes care of many chores. You have tasks, calendar, email and social networking (via plugins) all built in into one interface and they all gel together.

    Evolution does that for Linux, but Thunderbird falls short of the much needed integration. This is where class="vt-p" href="http://www.spicebird.com/">SpiceBird comes in. SpiceBird is built on top of Mozilla’s offerings so you will feel at home if you have been using Thunderbird. SpiceBird also brings much more to the table when compared to Thunderbird, as you shall see.

    id="more-51838"> /> You can download and install SpiceBird class="vt-p" href="http://www.spicebird.com/download">here for both Windows and Linux. The installer is around 12MB in size and installs in a snap. Once installed, fire it up and you will see a tabbed interface. The various tabs give you access to all the features SpiceBird has to offer. This is in contrast to Thunderbird where the tabs don’t quite feel they have been utilized to the fullest out of the box.

    Let’s briefly look at the various tabs (and thus the features) of SpiceBird.

    The Home Tab

    The home tab is a lot like your class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/igoogle">iGoogle page. You can add and manage tiny widgets to it. These widgets can be used to display a preview of your inbox(es) or time in different zones or you can use them to keep up with your favorite RSS feeds.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/hometabsbird.png" alt="spicebird" width="560" height="383" />

    You can display upcoming tasks or add one of the many class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/make-your-own-personalised-igoogle-gadgets">iGoogle gadgets available out there. The possibilities are almost limitless and you can add just about any gadget you have on your iGoogle page to the home tab.

    Click on Add Applets in the tool bar and then choose Google Gadget. Now, copy the address of the iGoogle Gadget from the gadget’s description and paste it on the page. This should load the gadget in your SpiceBird home tab.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/googlegadgetsbirf.png" alt="spicebird" width="330" height="188" />

    You can drag and drop widgets onto the page and arrange them to your liking. What’s also nice is the fact that SpiceBird picks up your default system theme and tries to mimic it.

    The Inbox Tab

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/mailaccountsbirf.png" alt="email clients" width="340" height="222" />

    The dialog seems familiar? Yes, it is the same you get when you configure a new account with Thunderbird. The Inbox tab will seem familiar to most Thunderbird users. It looks and functions the same as well.

    You can configure your mail accounts, which will appear on the left side. You can open an e-mail in a new tab or new window if you prefer. In addition you will find that you can use most of Thunderbird’s functionality out of the box with SpiceBird.

    Contacts, Calendar & Tasks Tab

    We can safely group these together under one header as they all work as you would expect any contacts or calendar application to work. You can add your chat accounts in the Contacts tab and use them to manage and store your contacts.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/calendarsbird.png" alt="email clients" width="560" height="331" />

    The Calendar provides standard functionality without the Google Calendar sync which is a big blow. You can still import and export iCal files if that suffices for you.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/taskssbird.png" alt="email clients" width="502" height="207" />

    You can also create class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/tag/tasks/">tasks inside the tasks tab, set task priorities, categorize them as you see fit and even mark the progress on your tasks.

    All in all SpiceBird works well and does a good job of providing a single interface for tasks that you need to perform daily. The tabbed interface to track your tasks, calendar and emails all in one application is a big plus. The ability to add Google Gadgets to the start page is awesome.

    That being said, it’s not all praises for SpiceBird.

    The application would gain immense popularity if they can offer sync with popular services like class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/best-of-google-calendar-addons-tips/">Google Calendar and Remember the Milk. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if this is indeed preventing users from adopting SpiceBird as their default application. Also there is a lot of scope for improvement with regards to integration between all the features that SpiceBird provides. I could view my tasks, events and mail on the homepage, but I had to toil around to add an event to the mail.

    How do you like your e-mail clients? All in one solutions or plain simple email goodness? We would love to hear your thoughts. />

    How To Save Your Complete Facebook Chat History

    facebook chat historyWhen you’re trying to remember the exact course of a conversation, to retrieve a lost web address, or just want to reminiscence tales of a past long gone, your chat logs can help you out big time.

    Taking note of conversations may sound unnecessary, or even plain paranoid, but often proves to be extremely useful. Recalling those conversations word by word is one heck of a superpower.

    One thing I’ve always missed about Facebook is that ability to keep logs of your Facebook chat history. As it is, Facebook only remembers short snippets of some most recent conversations – and only per page and in between sign-offs. Because the user has to be online, this can only ever be used to continue some previous conversations where you left off.

    Below is an alternative method to permanently save your Facebook chat history, using browser extensions.

    Using A Firefox Add-On Or Google Chrome Extension

    Before we head off, let’s dispel a common misconception that has already earned these extensions some bad ratings. This technique does not allow you to delve into long lost conversations, prior to the usage of these extensions. Why not? Simple; because Facebook does not keep those around. So unless you can find yourself a time machine, there’s no way to recover those.

    From the moment you’re set up however, these extensions will remember every single word said. And those can be retrieved later on.

    Start out by downloading and installing Facebook Chat History Manager as a Firefox add-on or Google Chrome extension. There’s still a little work ahead before they’re running smoothly, though.

    facebook chat history

    On Google Chrome, go to Window -> Extensions -> [FbCHM] Options, as can be seen in the screenshot above. You’re now in the extension’s Options pane. On the left, select ‘Get Facebook ID‘.

    On Firefox, go to Tools -> Facebook Chat History Manager -> Get Facebook ID.

    After logging into your account and authorizing the Facebook application, you’ll be able to view your Facebook ID. This is a number unique to your Facebook account. Copy it to your clipboard; you’ll need it in the next step.

    On Google Chrome, go to Window -> Extensions -> [FbCHM] Options -> Create Account.

    On Firefox, go to Tools -> Facebook Chat History Manager -> Create Account.

    Use the previously obtained Facebook ID to create your account. The passwords here do not have to match your Facebook log-in password. It’s solely to keep your chat logs safe. Because you’ll have to log in later on, and again whenever you want to browse your chat history, an easy to remember login name can speed this up. This is optional though.

    After creating your account, the set-up process is complete. The browser extensions will quietly keep track of your Facebook chat history, and allow to access it later on.

    facebook chat history

    The Google Chrome extension will place an icon on your address bar, as can be seen in the screenshot above. Clicking it will prompt you for your username and password, before sending you off to your chat logs.

    On Firefox, simply go to Tools -> Facebook Chat History Manager ->View History. Here too, you’ll need to enter your account details.

    The Facebook chat history viewer isn’t very pretty, but does what it’s meant to do. On the top bar, you can select a period; on the left, a friend. To view older conversations, select ‘previous‘, or use an input field to jump to a specific page.
