3 Websites To Find Software Compatible With 64-Bit Operating Systems

64 bit freewareChances are, those of you who are buying a brand new computer in the next year will be getting your hands on something running a 64-bit operating system. x64 has its pros and cons, but it is the future. Not even the strongest personal complaint about software incompatibility is going to be enough to bring technology to a halt!

Windows has managed to do a pretty good job of putting together the x64 version’s emulation mode (WoW64) and I’ve had no experiences where 32-bit software wouldn’t run as expected. Device drivers though, is a big one. Don’t you dare go putting x86 device drivers on your x64 machine. However, x86 64-bit systems often lack alternative software to those that are written specifically for 32-bit architectures. So here I am with three solutions that ought to put you on to some brand new, 64-bit compatible freeware goodies.

Just a note before jumping in: All three of these websites are very trustworthy and I have experiences with them all. Feel free to check their WoT ratings if you’d like a third-party opinion. However, I do not personally support downloading software from anywhere but the software’s original website. Too many websites wrap their downloads with garbage, and though these don’t I’d still recommend that you search up and navigate to the author’s site and download the programs from there. Just a safety practice!

Start64!

64 bit freeware

Start64! is one of the most trusted repositories for updated software compatible with 64-bit systems. Those of you who have been really laying it on me about now posting much about OSX will be pleased as Start64! has a whole section set aside for Apple fans.

The site is very easy to navigate, which is something I’ll always be a fan of. The listings are clear, large, and include a short summary of the software.

windows xp 64 bit

Each and every listing includes live screenshots and an easy-to-read recap of the program’s features. They make it very clear in just about every specific software’s listing that the software is 64-bit compatible and go as far as to list OS compatibilities overall. If you read my warning earlier (which I hope you did) then you don’t have to worry about Start64! because they send you directly to the website the software originates from for downloads instead of making you jump through hoops.

64x Software

64x Software is for both users and developers, so if any 64-bit coders have managed to slip upon this post then there’s a little added bonus for you.

windows xp 64 bit

This website can be a little confusing at first and I’m not crazy over the design and listing layout, but it’ll get the job done. The site is used best when checking their top software listings, or their categorical ones:

windows xp 64 bit

Software display pages are a little bit “meh” but again, gets the job done. Never been a fan of websites that allow open comments and a bleak rating system, but 64x Software does have a vast range of 64-bit compatible software.

X 64-bit Download

freeware windows 7 64 bit

X 64-bit Download has that Download.com feel to it and I’d suggest it for the more novice user. My recommended landing pages would be at their featured and top pages (though I’m unsure of the difference). I’ve used both to find some of the better software listed here.

The site has a lot of information per software, and just as many ads. Gets a little annoying, but this is a safe website.

64 bit freeware

They’ve got software separated by category and from my experiences I do believe this is a website that features only Windows software. Sorry guys. Downloads are hosted on their servers so consider my warning earlier. Again, safe site but don’t mind me trying to condition you to be a paranoid downloader!

You can find some of the 64-bit architecture’s best software using these websites, but remember that dabbling in the world of 32-bit applications isn’t going to harm your system either. We’ve got a whole lot of articles that can help you find the software you’re looking for.

Leave a comment and let me know some of your favorite 64-bit compatible programs to use!

Suggest Romantic Date Ideas & Find Compatible Partners With HowAboutWe

class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/dates-300.png?54167" alt="romantic date ideas" />If you’ve ever spent any time dabbling in the online dating scene, you’ve probably realised that it has some huge limitations. Mostly, that it can be really hard to find someone who you’re actually going to like in real life. It’s simply not enough to be able to say you’re looking for a blonde 30-year-old. What you really need to know is whether your idea of a good time is in any way compatible.

This is where class="vt-p" href="http://www.howaboutwe.com/">HowAboutWe comes in. It’s a dating site which revolves around the actual dates. In essence, you get to choose someone to date by whether or not you both like the same idea for a date. Plus, it’s a really neat way to get romantic date ideas!

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/HowAboutWe-Guide.jpg?54167" alt="romantic date ideas" />

Get On To HowAboutWe

The sign-up process for class="vt-p" href="http://www.howaboutwe.com/">HowAboutWe is straight-forward and quick. Really, you’re just giving them a few important bits of information to ensure they never suggest that you date someone with completely incompatible ideals. The deal-breaker topics are about faith, politics and how important those ideals are to you. You also add the usual stuff about your general details, where you live and what basic sort of person you’re looking for. Photos are required to be found in search, but you can get by without them if you really wish.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Tell-us-more.jpg?54167" alt="ideas for a fun date" />

Once the basic details are filled, you can add more information to your profile if you like, or just get into browsing the dates.

Finding Great Dates

It’s easy to class="vt-p" href="http://www.howaboutwe.com/date-ideas">find great dates in HowAboutWe. That’s the whole point! Search date ideas by keyword, see popular dates or check out the trending romantic date ideas.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Date-Ideas.jpg?54167" alt="ideas for a fun date" />

When you see a date idea you like, repost it (much like retweeting tweets). The idea will be added to your profile page and you’ll be listed as one of the many people who think that date idea is a good one. The more dates you repost, the more likely it is that someone interesting will find you and ask you out on that date. Also, you’re opening yourself up to more excellent dates!

By building your profile with a selection of great dates you like, you’re also letting potential suitors know a bit about what you really like to get up to. It’s a win-win.

Coming Up With Great Date Ideas

You can also list your own class="vt-p" href="http://www.howaboutwe.com/date-ideas">date ideas and see who else likes them. Some users are broad with their date ideas, which can result in them being quite popular, while others make them more specific by adding the city into the date idea. This limits the exposure, but could also work in your favour. Try a few different tactics and see how it goes.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Your-date-idea.jpg?54167" alt="ideas for a fun date" />

Finding Great People

The best way to meet like-minded people is to browse the date ideas. When you find a date you like, see who else has liked it. Then you can ask one of those people out on this date – and you don’t even have to come up with a great date idea, either!

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Find-People-Who-Like-This-Date.jpg?54167" alt="" />

Obviously, you can also browse the user database for people who match your taste and live nearby. This might help narrow down your options if it turns out your town isn’t yet bustling with users.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Date-Ideas2.jpg?54167" alt="good date ideas" />

In the meantime, you can still populate your profile with great romantic date ideas. If nothing else, you’ve got a handy list to refer to when you need inspiration later!

    Design “all Browsers Compatible” Website

    Web design has always been tough job. New web browsers have always made this of complicated. As new web browsers are coming there has begun a need for changing the design of the website or adjustments or redesigning them again.Different web browsers display differently web sites. A website that is compatible in IE (internet explorer) may not be compatible in display in Mozilla Fire Fox. Redesigning a web site again and again is costly, requires time and it might damage your business, by driving your visitors away. Therefore a non standard website may undergo a lot of change before it is properly displayed.

    To avoid these hurdles, an all browser compatible web site should be developed. Use web development platforms that will help you save a lot of time and bring excitement to work.

    A website should be designed in accordance to the W3 standards. These standards have been set to improve the functionality, design and look of websites, thus saving time and making them all browser compatible.

    We have many web browsers now days as Mosaic, Cello, Lynx (2.0), Arena, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera 3.0, fireFo.Now a day’s Mozilla fire fox the most popular web browser that is being used. But the problems with Mozilla are that is does not support java script and flash, the loading time is more.

    Therefore always design a website that is browser compatible so that your users don’t have to adjust. It’s you who should have a browser compatible website and not visitors should change their browsers to be able to see your website.

    Recommend Some Anti-Virus Softwares Compatible with Windows 7

    With the number of Windows 7 users is increasing, I think it is essential to discuss what useful Anti-Virus softwares we can install in Windows 7. So here I will show you a some Anti-Virus softwares which are compatible with Windows 7.

    Our Recommendation

    Microsoft Security Essentials is a free anti-virus and it can work really well. Most importantly, it won’t slow down your computer.

    Note: Generally speaking, software that works on Windows Vista should work fine on Windows 7 as well, except a software that installs low-level system components, such as an Anti-Virus, firewalls, or similar. These packages are usually designed to run on specific versions of Windows.

    Windows AntiVirus Detection

    After you first install Windows 7, you’ll get a popup balloon message by saying that you need to find an antivirus program online.

    Once you’ve installed a compatible package, you will find the balloon message will go away and you’ll see a message in the Action Center telling you that “Virus protection” is On:

    Actually, the packages should also hook into the Windows 7 update mechanism and let you know when your virus definitions are out of date.

    Note: On to the list, I took a screenshot of the Action Center screen proving that each package installs and is recognized properly by Windows 7, but I also ran through a couple of quick tests for each package.

    AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

    AVG Free is one of the most popular anti-virus softwares now. Fortunately, it is not only work perfectly under Windows 7, but it’s on the list of a small number of software packages that are officially compatible per Microsoft.

    You’ll notice that it also offers Anti-Spyware protection, and Windows recommends that you only run a single Anti-Spyware application:

    Avira AntiVir Personal Edition

    Avira is a popular freeware antivirus with a number of the regulars in favor of it.

    Note: This software works without any issues that I could find during my quick testing.

    Norton AntiVirus 2009

    There is no doubt Norton AntiVirus 2009 works just fine. They are also on Microsoft’s list of compatible software for Windows 7.

    Note: Since it also provides anti-spyware protection, maybe you would like to disable Windows Defender for performance reasons.

    Avast! AntiVirus Home

    Also this one works just fine. You’ll find that this package provides Anti-Spyware protection as well.

    Microsoft Windows Live OneCare:

    What surprise me is that this one doesn’t even install under Windows 7, just giving you a big fat error message (I guess Microsoft still has some coordination problems.).

    In fact, OneCare is going to be discontinued in June 2009, with Microsoft switching to offering a free product instead.

    Kapersky Anti-Virus 2009

    I list it here not only it works well but also it is preferred by a number of computer users.

    McAfee VirusScan:

    Actually it is reported to be not working by multiple readers.

    Also Working Per Reader Comments

    These packages are reported to be working by the readers in the comments below:

    -PCGuard Anti-Virus from Virgina Media Broadband

    -ESET Nod32 Anti-Virus

    -Microsoft Forefront Client Security (Enterprise)

    Important Note

    Just because all of these packages install and run doesn’t mean they are necessarily “supported” by the vendors.

    If you are looking for an Anti-Virus package, this list can help you much.

    Is Your Website Cross Compatible? – Does it Support Every Major Web Browser, Or Can Your Site Look.

    “Cross compatability in browsers”, If you have spent your share of time on the internet, I am sure you have heard the term before.

    Basically, this refers to the ability to project your website in the same format, regardless of what browser your visitors are using to view your site with. It is very important to keep in mind that the browser *you* use to access the web is not the same for everyone.

    There are many brands of browsers available on the web, some of which are more widely used that others, and just like the various operating systems available today…not all browsers function exactly the same way. In some cases, your content may display the same in most major web browsers, but it doesn’t always work out so easily. From tables to layers, JavaScript to php…there are many things that can display differently to the user browsing your website based on the application they are using.

    This is why it is very important that, when creating a website (or page), you verify that the page functions correctly in all major browsers (this means having a machine with all browsers available to you so that you can view and test your site in each one). When something does go astray, it isn’t always simple to fix…but it can be done.

    So always make sure that you check your work before you publish your work. It’s better that you catch the mistake before your customers do. Examples of popular browsers: Internet Explorer, FireFox, Opera Browser, Google Chrome, Safari and Netscape
