If you belong to a group or organization which still collects contact information during an event or meeting using the traditional pen and paper method, it’s time to get into the digital age.You don’t have to go far for the solution.
Using Google Forms, you can collect names, emails, and other contact information on your computer or mobile device that supports mobile browsing. All the data is saved to a spread sheet which can be used for various purposes.
To create a Google form, sign into your Google account and click on Documents in the menu bar. Next, click the Create button and select the Form tool.

You can add various types of input data items to your Google Form, e.g., Text boxes, Multiple choice responses, Choose from a list.

Click on the Add item button in the Forms editor and familiarize yourself with the type of items available. Before you get started with the layout of your form, outline on a separate sheet of paper the type of information you want to collect.
The “Multiple choice” and “Choose from a list” items work especially well for collecting data from a drop down option, rather than requiring responders to type out information.

Of course, you will also want to collect simple contact information (e.g. name, email, phone number) using text boxes. Keep in my mind, however, if you plan to collect information during an event or meeting, keep your data collection as simple and minimal as possible so that it takes maybe less than 30 seconds for a form to be filled out.
Collecting data using a Google Forms is much better and faster than trying to do so on a spread sheet, though the data you collect ends up in spread sheet. To enhance the form, you should use one of the supplied background themes.

Select the Theme button and choose from about 100 different themes. If none of them fit your organization or club, simply go with the graphic free Sample or Plain Form. To change a theme, click the Apply button. (Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way to add your own custom image/background.)
Notice at the bottom of the Google Form editor you can click the assigned URL to see how your form will look. You can embed the form into your website, but for our purposes in this tutorial we focus on using the form to collect information during an event or meeting.
To use the form, simply go to your Documents folder and click on the title of the form in your Docs menu. The form will consist of a spreadsheet. Click on the “Form” the menu bar, where you edit, view, send or embed the form in a webpage.

Click on “Go to live form” to open it again in your web browser. Because the form is web based, it can be opened on a mobile device as well, with a Wi-Fi or 3G connection. Simply send and open the URL on device(s) you want to use it on. The form can be used simultaneously on more than one device.

Google Forms saves data to a spread sheet, so you can export that data, say as a CSV file and then import it into an Address Book, save or print it out as a PDF, or use it in OpenOffice.

Google Forms saves you time in collecting, managing and using data. It’s a free service, making it less expensive than similar costly services. Let us know what you think of Google Forms and how you’re using it.

It’s the most popular homepage on the entire planet. It’s the biggest (and to some, the only) search engine online. It’s the portal to the entire internet, really. Surprisingly enough, over the past ten years the appearance of it hasn’t really changed a bit. Google is Google, and we know it by that all-white search page and multicolored logo.
Isn’t it a little bit bright and harsh on the eyes, though? You might even call it boring, one could grow pretty tired of launching their browser and seeing that exact same color scheme for years and years. In this post, I’m going to try to fix that for you. I’m here to put you on to a list of Google Search pages that change the color scheme and design of your Google homepage.
Here’s a screenshot of Google from 1999:

Here’s Google today:

Catch my drift? Let’s take a look at our other options.

Blackle, or “Black Google”, sets out to relieve your eyes of all that stress. More than that, Blackle promises that it saves energy.
Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. “Image displayed is primarily a function of the user’s color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen.” Roberson et al, 2002

GMBMG strives to do something that Google has taken more of an initiative towards recently in removing affiliate links and other spammy material from their search engine result pages. Using GMBMG will automatically append operands to your query that eliminate common spam results.

Purpoogle follows the same path as Blackle. Except it’s purple, not black. And it has zero intention of being energy efficient. At least it sounds fun when it comes off the tongue.

Though it may look dull and plain like the original Google, Boogle keeps it nice and fresh by offering you a unique quotation every time you pull up the page. Here are a few examples:
“It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end.” – Ursula K. LeGuin
“When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators.” – P. J. O’Rourke
“To find something you can enjoy is far better than finding something you can possess.” – Glenn Holm

This one is Google with a fruity California twist.

This is one of the coolest ones, in my opinion. It’s constantly updated with the default design of Google Search, but it spins and rotates. You can type actively as the animation continues. The music is really nice, too.

It’s big, it’s blue, and it’s Google Search.

I loved dinosaurs when I was a kid. I was a huge stegosaurus fan. Dinoogle is Google Search with a clean tyrannosaurus rex theme.

Doesn’t it get on your nerves when people TyPe LiKe ThIs? Now you can experience that same feeling every time you bring up your browser!

Epic Google is enough to make the average searcher a little bit anxious. It’ll really grow on you, though.

Is emo out of style yet? If not, feel free to enjoy this more graphical homepage. Skulls, stars, and blackness.

On the girlie side, a pink version of Google does exist.
Have you come across any other alternate look for the Google Search page? Does the look matter to you in a small way? Let us know.

Google Currents, Google’s magazine-style reader for mobiles which was first launched in December, has now gone international. Up until now, Google Currents was available for US users only, and naturally included US-only content. This is no longer the case. Wherever apps are available on the App Store or on Google Play, users can now download the Google Currents app onto their phone or tablet.
Google Currents 1.1 also has much improved syncing capabilities. While the first version was notorious for its somewhat slow syncing, the new version syncs edition content wherever you are, and does so quickly and automatically. You can also choose to download full editions for offline reading.

As part of going global, publishers from all around the world can now use the Google Currents Producer to create their own local editions for local audiences and choose where these editions will be available. And it gets even better: Google Currents now offers automatic translations into 38 different languages, so you can read content in your preferred language.
According to Google, Google Currents includes nearly 400 publisher editions and over 14,000 self-produced edition from the US alone, and many non-US publications such as The Guardian in the UK, Financial Times Deutschland in Germany, ABC News in Australia and Hindustan Times in India have already started publishing editions with local content.
Have you had a chance to try Google Currents? What do you think of it?

You’ve waited and waited, and it’s finally here. Instagram has finally launched on Android, bringing the famous photo editing and sharing experience to millions of eager Android users. Instagram for Android is available for download from the Google Play store, and requires Android 2.2 and up.
Only two weeks ago, Instagram opened registration for Android users who wanted to be the first to know of the upcoming launch. There was no word as to when this launch will happen, exactly, but the registration process itself indicated that the launch was imminent. Now, the anticipated e-mail has arrived, stating “Finally. Instagram For Android”.

On Android, Instagram looks right at home, partly due to the new not-so-iOSish look of the app. New users can create an account from within the app. An ‘unknown network error’ some people are seeing might be due to Instagram’s system coping with thousands of simultaneous new accounts being opened.
Instagram was originally launched on October 2010, and up until now was an iOS-exclusive application. Several Android replacements have popped up over time, including Camera360, Vignette and Hipster, but the buzz around them was never quite the same as Instagram’s. Will you rush out to download Instagram for Android?
