Convert Videos & Export Them To iTunes Easily With Evom [Mac]

class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/0_evom.jpg" alt="export videos to itunes" />Anyone who is a fan of converting and watching videos on their iPad or other class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/ios/">iOS device will understand that this can be difficult at times. There are a lot of programs out there capable of getting the job done for you. So many, in fact, that one could argue that there are actually too many, which can make it even more confusing trying to find the right one.

Once you do find the right tool, you still have to face the task of getting your newly converted files over to iTunes and syncing them to your devices, which can be more difficult than it sounds.

With class="vt-p" href="http://thelittleappfactory.com/evom/">Evom for Mac, however, this whole process is extremely easy. Evom is a lightweight video converter and transfer tool that will export converted videos directly to iTunes for you. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy…it’s high speed!

What Is Evom?

Evom, a product of the Little App Factory, enables you to drag-and-drop and convert videos quickly and easily. It lets you enjoy online content without being tethered to the web and, like I stated in the introduction, it was built for speed. It is designed to convert movie files and Flash videos quickly, taking advantage of your Mac’s multi-core processor, allowing you to get content off of the web and onto your favorite devices.

With Evom, you can drag folders, individual files, or links into the program’s window to start, and your items will be converted for you and exported directly into iTunes or – optionally – saved to your desktop. Once converted, your videos will be compatible with your iPods, iPhones, iPads, and many other devices.

How Do I Use Evom?

Although I gave you a rough idea of how Evom works above, let’s take a closer look at the actual process from start to finish. The first thing you’ll need to do if you want to take advantage of Evom’s power is head over to the website and class="vt-p" href="http://thelittleappfactory.com/evom/">download the app.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/1_evom.png" alt="export videos to itunes" width="291" height="403" />

Once you’re ready to go with Evom, just drag or specify the video folder you would like to convert video from. If you leave the iTunes option selected, your videos will go straight to your iTunes folder after conversion to be synced with your iOS devices.

When you drop video files that you want to convert, a configuration box will pop up asking you to specify the output format, as well as the output folder, title, and quality of video.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/2_evom.png" alt="how to add videos to itunes" width="448" height="434" />

If you don’t want Evom to convert videos for some specific device, you can always choose to convert video in a specific format. Evom supports the AVI, FLV, MP4, HTML5, MOV, MPG, and WMV formats. Also, you can extract audio out of a video file and convert it into OGG and MP3 format.

As a side note, Evom is also capable of converting selected videos directly to your Apple TV in a compatible format.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/3_evom.png" alt="export videos to itunes" width="289" height="402" />

Once you’ve made all of your selections and set up class="vt-p" href="http://thelittleappfactory.com/evom/">Evom just the way you want it, you can go ahead and click Convert to transform your files into watchable ones.

If you’re a fan of video conversion, I also recommend you check out class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/rip-convert-movies-macx-dvd-ripper-video-converter-combo-mac/">MacX Video Converter and class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/watch-folders-convert-video-files-dropfolders-handbrake/">Handbrake too. Will you be using Evom to convert your videos?  Or do you have another favorite?

    Two Simple Ways To Disable Ping In iTunes [Mac & Windows]

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/shutterstock_39106381.jpg" alt="itunes ping" />As we’ve noted on many occasions, href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/itunes/">iTunes is a program many of us use out of necessity rather than desire. Despite its many uses, iTunes has a plethora of niggling annoyances which most users would be happy to remove. Here at MakeUseOf, we’re happy to share what we know in order to make that possible for you.

    We’re always looking for hacks and fixes to everyday iTunes problems and listening to iTunes users to see what they’re still troubled with. Since Ping is one of the newer features in iTunes, Apple is only just realising that many people have legitimate reasons to want to turn it off. So it’s understandable that few people have worked out the best ways to disable the feature yet. Thankfully, it’s quite easy to disable Ping in two very effective ways.

    Ping is essentially a social network within iTunes. It allows you to share details of your iTunes purchases, favourite music and any reviews of albums that you care to make. Itunes Ping also allows you to receive social recommendations for music based on what your friends like and what you’ve purchased. For many people, this is just a bit of fun. But, for others this is something they don’t want available for themselves or their children. Not everyone wants to automatically share their purchases with the world, which is what occurs in Ping when you buy through the iTunes store.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/iTunes-Ping-v2.png" alt="itunes ping" />

    Recently we have discussed how to make the iTunes window size control buttons href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/rid-vertical-window-controls-itunes-mac">horizontal rather than vertical, talked through the process of href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/easiest-move-itunes-library-external-drive/">moving an iTunes library to an external drive, shown how to href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/boost-itunes-player-applescript-hacks-mac/">use Applescript to instantly play your favourite playlist from a keyboard shortcut, featured how to href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/automatically-import-downloaded-music-itunes-mac/">automatically add downloaded music to iTunes, explained href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/itunes-genius-mixes-personal-music-dj/">how to use Genius playlists, found great ways to href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/effectively-remove-duplicate-tracks-itunes-windows/">remove duplicates from iTunes, documented the href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/10-top-itunes-troubleshooting-tips-tricks/">best ways to troubleshoot iTunes issues, written a href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/the-big-book-of-itunes/">PDF manual on iTunes and we’ve href="http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/tag/itunes/">answered many more questions about iTunes from readers. Today it’s Ping’s turn to be fixed.

    Please note that we’re showing screenshots from a Mac iTunes install, but these tricks will work equally well for Windows users.

    1. Disable Ping Via Parental Controls

    Disabling Ping via parental controls is something that will only be in effect on this specific installation and user account, therefore it is only a temporary fix. This can also only be done using the newer releases of iTunes – even version 10.0.1 was unable to disable Ping this way. Upgrade if you like, or simply use option two instead.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Preferences.png" alt="how to opt out of ping on itunes" />

    Go to iTunes > Preferences and click on Parental Controls. In the list of options for services to disable, check the Ping checkbox and save. If you’re disabling Ping in order to protect your children from using it, obviously you should ensure the Parental settings are locked also.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Ping-Disable-Parental.png" alt="how to opt out of ping on itunes" />

    As you can see, Ping is no longer available in the left hand sidebar.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Ping-is-Disabled.jpg" alt="how to opt out of ping on itunes" />

    2. Disable Ping Via iTunes Account

    This is a more permanent solution to disabling Ping. By choosing to disable this way, you effectively remove yourself from the Ping network and delete all user activity you may have previously made. The permanent deletion of activity occurs after you have disabled Ping for seven days, so you have a little leeway to change your mind if you like. Reviews will remain associated with your name unless you deliberately delete them in the Manage Reviews section of your account. Don’t worry about it too much, though. If you decide later to enable Ping, iTunes will immediately populate your account with details of your purchase history if you want it to.

    Use the left-hand sidebar to navigate to the iTunes store. On the far right of the store, you’ll see access to your account controls in both the quick links and a drop-down menu below your name. Click on “Account“.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/iTunes-Account.png" alt="ping on itunes" />

    You’ll then need to verify your account details and click on “Account Info“.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/sign-in.png" alt="ping on itunes" />

    There’s a section dedicated to Ping, where you can edit your Ping profile and turn Ping off – click “Turn Off“.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Ping-Controls.png" alt="ping on itunes" />

    You’ll also need to verify that request.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Are-You-Sure.png" alt="" />

    Further down the page, there’s an option to manage “Recommendations and Ping Posting“. You’ll also want to turn this off to avoid future annoyances from Ping when making purchases from iTunes.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Recommendations-and-Ping-Posting.png" alt="itunes ping" />

    You’re done! No more Ping!

    Will you be disabling iTunes Ping? Which method will you use and why? Let us know in the comments!

    How to Manage Your Podcasts In iTunes 10 [Mac]

    class="align-left" style="border: 0px none; margin-left: 20px; margin-top: 5px; float: right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/podcasticon.png" border="0" alt="how to manage podcasts in itunes" width="210" height="200" />If you’re an avid subscriber to a couple dozen or more of the 150,000 available podcasts in the Apple iTunes Store, you probably don’t have the time or the inclination to manage, let alone listen to, all of your podcast downloads.  But you also know that there’s a wealth of mostly free information and resources in podcasts that you don’t want to get rid of either.

    However, like other media files, podcast files can eat up a lot of memory space on your hard drive if you’re not using the available features and tools to manage them.

    id="more-55067"> /> So the following are some tips on how to better manage your podcasts in iTunes.

    Downloading Podcasts

    First off, if you don’t know much about accessing and downloading podcasts, it’s really simple to do so. You open up iTunes, click on the iTunes Store in the sidebar, and then select Podcasts in the iTunes Store menu bar.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/podcastsitunesstore.jpg" border="0" alt="how to manage podcasts in itunes" width="580" height="210" />

    From there, you can browse and preview a very wide selection of podcasts in nearly every category of interest.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/previewbuttom.png" border="0" alt="manage podcasts" width="555" height="339" />

    I definitely encourage you to preview selected podcasts before you begin downloading files to your computer.

    Podcast Settings

    When you choose to subscribe to a podcast, clicking on the Settings button at the bottom of iTunes is one of the first ways to help manage your downloads.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/podcastsettings.png" border="0" alt="manage podcasts" width="544" height="285" />

    In settings, you can tell iTunes which episodes to download, how long to keep them, and which ones to keep. These settings work pretty accurately, but if you don’t use them, your podcast files will pile up. The default settings will for example retain all the downloaded podcasts.

    Podcast Smart Playlists

    If you have several podcasts already downloaded to your computer, you should create a smart playlist that will capture all your most recent downloaded and unlistened/unwatched podcasts. Here are the rules I set for my playlist:

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/smartplaylistpodcast.png" border="0" alt="manage podcasts" width="600" height="259" />

    Since I subscribe to more podcasts than I have time to listen to, this smart playlist is what I typically use to quickly access recent downloads.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/oldpodcasts.png" border="0" alt="organize podcasts" width="580" height="224" />

    Another smart playlist I use is one that collects all podcast subscriptions added to my library more than six months ago. This is the list I use when I want to start cleaning up my library by deleting only podcasts.

    Control Menu Items

    It’s quite easy to listen to podcasts and let them build up on your hard drive, but if you right- or control-click on a podcast heading or episode, you can choose from several options to help you manage podcast files.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/controlumenu.png" border="0" alt="organize podcasts" width="380" height="278" />

    You can quickly mark a podcast as watched, get a description of an episode, and unsubscribe to podcasts that you’re no longer interested in.

    Updating Podcasts

    If you use the podcast settings feature I that pointed out above, iTunes will clean up your library each time it automatically updates your podcasts. But this feature doesn’t work well if you’re not consistent in your settings. To deal with this issue, you can right- or Control-click on a podcast and choose Update Podcast so that the settings will take effect.

    If however you want to manually update all podcasts, create this little AppleScript. Open the AppleScript editor, then copy and paste this script in the editor.

    style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 41.6px; text-indent: -41.6px; font: normal normal normal 12px/normal Verdana; color: #2c12fe; text-align: center;"> style="color: #000000;">tell application style="color: #000000;"> “iTunes” to updateAllPodcasts

    Save it in your iTunes > Library > Scripts folder where you can then access it via the iTunes menu bar in the Scripts icon. Running this script will update all your podcasts.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/updatepodcasts.png" border="0" alt="organize podcasts" width="424" height="210" />

    Deleting Podcasts

    If your podcast files have grown unwieldy, you can just go through the library and delete them. The beauty of getting rid of episodes is that you can typically re-download them again from the iTunes Store if need be.

    When you select one or more episodes, you can choose whether to delete these files from your hard drive or you can select to keep the episodes on your disk but not have it show up in your iTunes library interface.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/deletepodcasts1.png" alt="how to manage podcasts in itunes" width="580" height="223" />

    You can right- or Control-click on a podcast or episode and choose Show in Finder to quickly see where those files are stored in your vast iTunes library.

    10 Top iTunes Troubleshooting Tips & Tricks

    class="align-left" style="border: 0px none; margin-left: 20px; margin-top: 5px; float: right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Laptop-and-iPod-By-Ange.jpg" alt="itunes troubleshooting" />iTunes is one of those programs many of us love to hate. When it’s working well it’s okay, but when things go wrong it can get spectacularly bad. And quickly. Ever run into an iTunes issue that left you hunting all over the internet and Apple forums for a fix? I doubt there’s any iTunes users who haven’t spent time doing exactly this.

    So, today we’re going to look at some of the best iTunes troubleshooting tips and tricks to fix the most amount of problems quickly. Let’s go through the quickest ways to get your iTunes setup behaving normally again.

    id="more-51650"> /> Whether you’re using XP, Vista, Windows 7 or a Mac, these same tips will help you to troubleshoot iTunes (OK, Mac users do get let off a little sooner than PC users). Items might be in slightly different places, or be called slightly different things, but the gist is essentially the same.

    Here’s the best iTunes troubleshooting ideas in the most effective, least painful order. See the class="vt-p" href="http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/">Apple iTunes support pages for more specific instructions for your particular device.

    Back Up First!

    Before you start messing around with iTunes, do a quick backup of your entire library folder (especially the .xml and .itl files). In newer versions of iTunes (9.2), there’s a backup option you can use by going to File > Library > “Back up to Disc”. That will also backup any music you’ve downloaded from the iTunes store.

    1. Is It Your iPod Or iPhone?

    Sadly, a lot of iTunes problems occur when you’re trying to use iTunes with an iPod or iPhone. Some of the best troubleshooting methods for these troubles involve resetting or rebooting your iPod/iPhone device or updating the firmware for the device – all of which is different for each device, so see the Apple support pages. If you’re lucky, it can be fixed by upgrading iTunes.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/iTunes-Cover-Flow.png" alt="itunes troubleshooting" />

    2. Is It The iTunes Or Quicktime Install?

    It’s possible your installations are faulty or need updating:

    • Re-install class="vt-p" href="http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/">iTunes and Quicktime. This will both fix any faults and ensure you have the latest version.
    • Possibly delete Quicktime (Quicktime sometimes affects video and audio playback).

    3. Is It Your Anti-Virus Software Or Internet?

    Try these steps (check iTunes again after each step to see if it now works):

    • Disconnect computer from internet.
    • Check for viruses. Remove if required.
    • Update/remove virus protection software and virus definitions.
    • Disable internet filtering software.

    4. Is It Your iTunes Library Or Account?

    Things to try:

    • Create a new library (by holding down Shift when opening iTunes or by moving the old library before you open iTunes).
    • If the new library works, you might need to import your old library or re-create the old one. Slowly re-add files to see if it’s a problem with an individual file.
    • Create a new user account and run iTunes there (see if it’s broken just for your account).
    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Library.png" alt="itunes problems" />

    5. Video/Audio Troubles Only? Enable The Highest Setting

    Throughout iTunes troubleshooting documentation for video and audio troubles has one recurring theme: enable the highest setting.

    Go into your sound or video settings and set things to maximum hardware acceleration, maximum screen resolution, enable 3D video etc. Rule of thumb, “turn it up”.

    6. Check Your Plug-Ins

    Remove all your class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/13-addons-itunes-users-should-know-about/">third-party iTunes plugins.

    7. It Might Be DirectX

    If you’re using Windows (especially class="vt-p" href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1386">XP, 2000 class="vt-p" href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718">Vista or Windows 7) and you have video issues, try updating DirectX or disable DirectX in Quicktime (change it to Safe Mode GDI instead).

    8. Check Your iTunes Configuration

    Close iTunes. Move the file you’re testing to a safe place. Restart iTunes. Replace the file if that didn’t help.

    • Temporarily remove the iTunes preferences files (try each file individually by moving it elsewhere and starting iTunes).
    • Remove the iTunes configuration files (delete the “SC Info.sidb” file).

    The preference files for class="vt-p" href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717">Windows Vista and 7 live here:

    C:\Users\username\App\Data\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes /> C:\Users\username\App\Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

    In class="vt-p" href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1421">Windows XP and 2000 the iTunes preference files are here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes /> C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes

    In class="vt-p" href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776">Windows XP and 2000 the iTunes configuration files are here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info

    Delete the “SC Info.sidb” file and restart iTunes.

    9. Check Conflicting Processes

    Go through the list of current processes, disabling things sequentially to see if you can pinpoint the problem.

    Here’s Apple’s guide for class="vt-p" href="http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292">using MSCONFIG to check for processes conflicting with iTunes in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

    10. Update PC drivers

    Look at sound cards and video cards in particular and see if there’s an available update.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/iTunes.png" alt="itunes troubleshooting" />

    There’s a number of things that may go wrong with iTunes, and the exact details of the steps you need to take will always be device-specific, but these are the general troubleshooting ideas which will get you results fast.

    If none of the itunes troubleshooting tips listed here worked and you’re a little over iTunes now, you could try class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/move-over-itunes-mozillas-songbird-is-here/">Songbird and many ways to sync your class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/6-ways-sync-ipod-computer-itunes/">iPod and class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/6-ways-to-sync-music-to-your-iphone-without-itunes/">iPhone without iTunes.

    How To Transfer Itunes Music To Mp3 Player?

    Q: “I’ve purchased a bunch of music from iTunes and have enjoyed listening to them on my computer. But my portable music player is not an Apple iPod, so I can’t take my songs with me. I know that I can burn it but I don’t have a cd burner on my computer so I need a different method. Is there any way I can get around this unfair restriction and transfer my iTunes music to MP3 player?”

    A: Music files from iTunes are DRM-protected. In order to play them on mp3 players other than iPod and iphone, you need a special program to help strip off the protection and convert the iTunes m4p, m4b, m4a music to mp3. I always use wondershare music converter. My friend introduced it to me. It can convert the songs from iTunes at very high speed.

    Most of the files purchased from iTunes Store are DRM protected i.e. you can play them only on specific devices and computers. You cannot use the DRM protected files on any random computer or portable media player. And the music from iTunes store is usually either in MP4 or AAC format. This means all of the songs and videos you download from the iTunes store will only work on your iPod. If you want them on another MP3 player or Sony PSP, you cannot do it unless you transfer the files to MP3 format.

    How to remove DRM from iTunes music?

    As we known, Apple only allowed for new sales of iTunes Plus content without providing a cost-reduced upgrade path. That said, downloading upgraded DRM-free, 256K songs cost 30¢ each, about one-third the 99¢ price of a track purchased a la carte.

    Although most people are not particularly happy about having to pay another 30¢ each for songs they already “owned” is there any other resolution? Yes, you get the right place! Today I would like to introduce one more easier and faster method to put iTunes music to mp3 player.

    What you need is just iTunes and this DRM Removal Program – Wondershare Music Converter. You can download here for iTunes and Wondershare Music Converter.

    Here is the step by step tutorial for the program:

    Step 1: Free download Wondershare Music Converter install and run it.

    Step 2: when come to the main interface, you can directly drag-drop target music file to the conversion window, or click the ‘Add’ button to import the target files.

    Step 3: Choose the format you’d like to get. There is a list of output formats. If you want to edit them in Windows Movie Maker, I recommend you to select MP3 or WAV.

    Step 4: And then click the start button, and the DRM removing process is beginning. After a while, the files are DRM-ripped. You can view your converted files by press the browse button.

    Step 5: After conversion, now we can transfer the converted songs to your mp3 player. The non-DRM music can be transferred to another MP3 player easily.

    Thanks for viewing this guide of transfer iTunes music to mp3. Now, let’s enjoy our clear music & videos in your mp3 player or other portable player freely and have a wonderful life.

    Tips: This method works also for music video movie downloaded from other online stores like Windows Media Center, Zune Marketplace, Napster, Rhapsody, Nokia Music Store, Spiralfrog, Bearshare, eMusic, Puretracks, MusicGiants, CinemaNow Movielink, Amazon Unbox etc, as well as your home-made movie shot with camcorder or something else.
