It also permits the user to bookmark, highlight and add sticky notes to pages, href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/assemble-a-no-fuss-mailing-list-using-zotero-gmail/">assemble a no-fuss mailing list, index full-text from PDFs, etc. Zotero not only stores PDF files, it also can store files, images, links, and entire web pages.

Benubird PDF is part Windows Explorer shell replacement, part collection manager. You can use this program to group specific files into collections or even use the Smart Collection feature to automatically group files into virtual folders according to rules you set. By default, there are four empty collections ready for you to make use of, namely, Finances, General, Personal, and Work. You can also put files together into a zip archive from within this program and select specific folders to keep track (“Watched Folders”), as well as what files to show. In this screenshot, I chose to have Benubird monitor my Dropbox folder’s PDF files only.

Filtering files of a certain format isn’t the only unique feature that Benubird possesses, as it also allows you to add tags to any file and edit the PDF details (metadata) without having to open up your PDF reader. Despite the fact that Benubird froze up several times during my test, it is a pretty robust tool to help you organize your PDF collection better. You should definitely check it out (or see the cross-platform href="http://www.mauropiccini.it/shoka/">Shoka, which is another PDF library manager) if you constantly deal with a huge collection of PDF documents.

If you’re just collecting PDF-based research articles, Mendeley and Zotero are probably the best choices to help you keep an organized library, as they also pick up bibliographic information. If you’re looking for just an easier way to manage your PDF documents only, try Benubird.

    TooManyTabs Turns Your Firefox Into A Task Management Powerhouse

I have plenty of them open at the same time and some of them keep hanging for days before I have time to get to those. Therefore I have tried plenty of ways to class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/too-many-tabs-firefox-add-ons-to-manage-a-tab-jam/">make the most of my tabs: I have compiled some of the best ways in my post class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/7-ways-productive-firefox-tabs/">7 Ways To Become More Productive With Firefox Tabs.

    Recently I came across another great addon I’ve been playing with and I found it really awesome.  class="vt-p" href="https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9429/">TooManyTabs lets you store and organize as many tabs as you like by adding extra rows in the Firefox browser. Essentially the tool adds an extra toolbar to Firefox (which does eat up some space but it is too useful not to try) that can be broken into several rows of open tabs.

    It works similar to the bookmark toolbar but for a few essential differences:

    • All tabs look as if they are open;
    • Clicking any tab loads the page in the browser and removes it from the addon toolbar (unless you “pin” it);
    • The addon has a few additional features that let you prioritize and visualize your tasks:

    Besides, the addon saves your browser’s space and memory as idle tabs are put aside.

    Task Management Options:

    The reason the addon appealed to me so much is not really the ability to add multiple rows of open (but not active) tabs. The reason is in the interesting task management options the tool adds to the browser.

    Sort Your Tasks Into “Folders

    You can name your rows using recognizable tasks (TO DO, TO WRITE, TO READ) or by the name of the project or whatever seems to make sense to you. In the options (“Interface” tab) you can also set how many rows you can see in the browser at one time. You can also set the default row to send the tabs to (for others rows you will need to use the right-click context menu):

    Visualize Tasks By Colors

    You can use available colors to mark urgent tasks or those that need some ‘action” (unlike just reading), etc. Coloring is done via the right-click menu:

    Stick Tabs

    In case you really want to make sure your tab is there until you manually remove it, use the right-click menu to “pin” it in the toolbar:

    More Fun Options To Play With:

    • If you tend to have a lot of tabs open, speed up your browser by sending most of them to the toolbar: this way they will still be in front of your eyes but won’t slow down your browser (instead of allowing idle tabs to waste your PC’s memory, you can now put your tabs on the extra rows, remove them from the memory, and restore them in your browser when you need them again).
    • View tab history and restore recently closed tabs;
    • Backup your TooManyTabs toolbar to the external file (to restore it on another computer).

    Google Chrome Version

    For Google Chrome users there’s a class="vt-p" href="https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/amigcgbheognjmfkaieeeadojiibgbdp">similar extension too that adds the following features:

    1. Get the bird’s eye view of all opened tabs (available by clicking the toolbar icon) with a clear preview of each tab’s content.
    2. Play with instant tab search.
    3. Sort tabs by creation time, domain or title.
    4. Restore recently closed tabs and send idle tabs to “Suspended” folder and save memory and organize them better.

    Partitioning

    Partitioning your hard drive can be an intimidating experience if you don’t know what you’re doing.     The project management software vendor and the customer should establish a mutually supportive relationship. When selecting a project management software to run and manage business data and for project management, the project manager should factor into consideration how responsive and competent the project management software vendor is in both the project management software itself and also the business industry that the project management software is intended to serve. The project manager should also observe how willing to help the project management software vendor is, and how promptly and accurately the project management software vendor follows up and follows through. These are all indications of how the project management software vendor will perform when supporting the customer.

    Many project management software vendors offer support for project software-specific questions, however such questions often call for business-related questions on how to handle best project management practices, for example, using the project management software. Since a project software is to support projects for the business, there should be no separation between answering technical questions about how to use the project management software and questions on how to solve project-related questions within that project management software.

    The vendor should become an active participant in supporting a project manager or company with it’s own project management processes, thereby having those project processes clearly defined and managed within the project management software. Once a business is invested into a project management software, the switch can be costly depending on whether or not the company wishes to migrate project management data from one software to another. Therefore, it is in the best interest of a project manager to, when selecting a project management software, to analyze how much effort it would take to switch to a new software, if the company reaches the limits of the current project management software.

    Although it may be difficult to assess the cost of moving project management software data to a new project management software without knowing ahead of time what the new project software is, part of the project software selection process should identify how such a switch in systems will be addressed, should such steps be taken in the future.

    Closing the Gap

    When an individual or company comes to us requesting more information, or a demonstration of i-Sight, many have identified gaps in their current systems, and are looking for a solution that can be built around the processes they already have in place. For example, at Underwriters Laboratories (UL), wanted a system that could handle large volumes of cases, was accessible from any location due to traveling investigators and would allow their current investigations team to handle increasing case volumes without having to add additional members to the team.

    At UL, the ability to build a criminally enforceable case requires detailed tracking of information and coordination with law enforcement agencies. UL originally utilized a simple database; however, the application was not capable of capturing e-mails or attachments and didn’t provide investigators with a comprehensive “visual” of each case.

    According to Judith Lykins, manager, Anti-Counterfeiting Operations at UL:

    “Our goal is to keep dangerous products out of the hands of consumers. In order to put together a successful investigation for criminal enforcement, we needed a more effective way to collect, analyze and output our data.

    In order to make it easier for members of the Anti-Counterfeiting Operations team to adopt i-Sight, it was designed to include the same terminology and categories used throughout the process at UL. Now, all members of the Anti-Counterfeiting Operations team have the ability to manage large case loads, while meeting deadlines and submitting consistent reports. i-Sight is a web based system, which makes it easy for traveling investigators to work on cases from any location with an Internet connection.

    Increasing Enforcement

    Organizations can lose thousands, even millions of dollars if investigations are not completed properly. For example, failure to investigate an employee complaint may result in a costly lawsuit, while taking too long to complete an investigation may result in money lost due to ongoing fraudulent actions. In 2003, the State of West Virginia launched a major reform of its workers’ compensation system, which was then heavily in debt and losing close to $1 million a day. A key goal of the initiative was to reduce the occurrence of fraud and abuse, by stepping up enforcement and by ensuring greater coordination among the state officials who were responsible for overseeing the system.

    “‘First, we found that the reporting features within i-Sight were excellent,’ said Chris Bailes, Director of Operations at the Office of the Inspector General. ‘That is really key, because without good data we can’t make good decisions. And second, we appreciated the flexibility that i-Sight gave us. We liked the fact that if we wanted to change our internal procedures six months down the road, i-Sight would allow us to do that.’”

    Since implementing i-Sight, the Office of the Inspector General (for the first time ever) has a convenient way of tracking and monitoring court-ordered restitution and repayments. Prior to implementing i-Sight, Bailes stated they  ”had over $6 million dollars in restitution and repayment agreements, and a little over 10% of that had been paid. We needed a way to monitor that situation the same way a bank monitors its loan repayments, with automatic alerts when people are missing their payments. i-Sight case management software does that for us, which is a fantastic feature.”

    Integrate Your Case Management Software With Your Work Provider


    Many Conveyancing and Personal Injury solicitors use work providers. DPS OneOffice for Personal Injury and Conveyancing can integrate with many of the major work providers on the market. 

    When a work providers sends a case to your firm, DPS OneOffice automatically creates a file in your system and informs the key person that this file has been incepted. The system automatically files progress reports with your work provider and recognises incoming and outgoing emails that are related to that case, filing them against the file in DPS with no user intervention.

    One such work provider DPS can integrate with is Albany Assistance, who specialise in the provision of outsourced services to the insurance industry including claims management services and personal injury management.

    Albany Assistance are a major work provider for Tayntons Solicitors LLP, a client of DPS Software. Tayntons use DPS Personal Injury to automatically create files, track cases and send out initial letters relevant to cases that have been provided by Albany Assistance.

    DPS are also compatible with movewithus, a major property services provider. Heenans Solicitors required a system which was able to integrate with movewithus, their principal property service provider. When movewithus submit a case to Heenans, DPS automatically creates and updates a file as the case progresses.
