Three Useful Safari Startup Tricks That You Might Not Be Familiar With

class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/00_safari_logo.jpg?54167" alt="" />The browser is the gate to the virtual world, and with the dawn of the cloud era, when all computing elements will be stored in the net, browsers will play an even more important part in our life.

One of the popular names in the browser world is class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/safari/">Safari. It’s the default browser for Mac, so it’s only logical that Safari is widely used in the Mac community. But even in the Windows realm, where Safari is not the number one choice, it still one of the top alternatives. If you are a Safari user, or have plans to try it, here are three useful Safari startup tricks that you might not be familiar with.

Please note that the following screenshots are taken from Safari for Mac, but they are applicable to the Windows version as well.

Continue The Last Session

It’s obvious that the ability to resume browsing sessions should be built into modern browsers, so it’s unclear why some major browsers still haven’t implemented this feature yet. Safari has a similar feature, and you can access it by going through the “History – Reopen All Windows from Last Session” menu.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/01a_reopen_last_session.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="01a reopen last session" width="580" height="210" />

Unfortunately, you have to do it manually every time you restart Safari. To enable this feature automatically, you’ll need help from class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/safari-extensions/">Safari extensions like class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/safari-search-plugins-showdown-glims-vs-inquisitor-mac-only/">Glims or SafariRestore.

If you accidentally close one of Safari’s open windows, you can quickly reopen it – along with all the tabs – using the “History – Reopen Last Closed Window” menu.

Many Ways To Start

One nice feature of Safari that I haven’t found in other browsers is the ability to really customize the way you want Safari to start. You can find the settings inside the Preferences window (Command + Comma on Mac or Ctrl + Comma on Windows).

One common thing between Safari and other major browsers is the ability to set a webpage as the homepage. To do this, type the URL of the page in the “Home page” field, or open the page that you want inside Safari and click the “Set to Current Page” button.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/02a_Pref_General.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="02a Pref General" width="580" height="300" />

You can set the home page to be opened every time you open a new window by choosing “Home Page” from the drop down list next to “New windows open with“.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/02b_new_windows_with.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="02b new windows with" width="450" height="170" />

Other options you can pick are: Top Sites, Empty Page, Same Page and Bookmarks. But the main course of this option is the ability to open many pages at once. Choose the “Choose tabs folder“, then pick one of the tab folders from the list. Everything inside the folder will be opened whenever you open a new window.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/02c_choose_folder_coll.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="02c choose folder coll" width="483" height="348" />

You have a more or less similar option for new tabs, but you can’t choose a tab folder here.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/02d_new_tabs_open.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="02d new tabs open" width="450" height="120" />

But how can you add and customize tab folders? You can use the “Bookmarks – Add Bookmark Folder” menu to add the folder, and then drag and drop the saved bookmarks into the folder.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/02b2_add_bookmark_folder.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="02b2 add bookmark folder" width="440" height="150" />

Or you could also open all the pages you want to include in the folder and go to “Bookmarks – Add Bookmark for These XX Tabs” menu, where XX is the number of the open tabs.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/02b3_bookmark_4_tabs.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="02b3 bookmark 4 tabs" width="350" height="150" />

Then give a name for the bookmark folder, and choose the location where you want to save this folder.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/02b4_name_place.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="02b4 name place" width="242" height="182" />

Congratulations, you have just created your own tab folder.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/02b5_saved_tabs.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="02b5 saved tabs" width="470" height="260" />

Start At The Top

One of the options you can choose to start a new window or tab is “Top Sites“. This choice lets you quickly pick and open pages, either from Safari’s History or from the list of frequently opened sites.

The History tab will display the page list in a cover flow-like arrangement, and let you scroll to the items from side to side.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/03a_start_coverflw.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="03a start coverflw" width="580" height="300" />

The Top Sites tab arranges the frequently opened sites in a matrix. You can choose the small, medium, or large boxes by clicking on the tab on the lower right corner of the screen.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/03b_start_top_sts.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="03b start top sts" width="580" height="299" />

You can customize the Top Sites view even more by clicking the “Edit” button on the lower left part of the screen. Two buttons will appear on the top left corner of each page, giving you options to remove individual item from the list, or pin it to the matrix so the particular item will always be present.

style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/03c_edit.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="03c edit" width="580" height="450" />

If you are a Safari user, you’ll find these startup tricks to be useful. They will help you work faster and more efficiently. If you are not a Safari user, maybe these tricks could give you a good reason to try Safari?

Are you a Safari user? Do you have any more Safari startup tricks? If so, please share using the comments below.

    5 More Powerfully Useful Safari Extensions You Should Try

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/safariicon.png" alt="safari extensions" />Almost two years ago, Apple finally set up a way for developers to create extensions for its fast and easy-to-use web browser, href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/safari">Safari. You can access available extensions by clicking on Safari > Safari Extensions Gallery in the menu bar. That will take you to a href="https://extensions.apple.com/">gallery page with over three dozen extensions to choose from.

    Apple has also made it easy to install extensions. You simply click on the install button for an extension and it will automatically get embedded into your Safari browser. In most cases you don’t even have to restart Safari in order to begin using the installed programs. However, if for some reason an extension doesn’t show up or work, just restart Safari and you should be good to go.

    You can turn off and on extensions by clicking on Safari > Preferences > Extensions. It’s a good idea to completely uninstall any extensions you’re not using.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/extensionspreferences.png" border="0" alt="safari extensions" width="580" height="436" />

    All of the extensions described below can be found in the href="https://extensions.apple.com/">Safari Extensions Gallery.

    Duplicate Tab Button

    One of my most used Safari extensions is Thiemo’s Duplicate Tab Button. The name says it all. It simply duplicates the currently active tab and opens it in a new tab or browser window. Before using this extension I can’t count how many times I would be on a webpage and wanted to, for example, leave a comment, but at the same time refer to or check a piece of the article as I’m writing.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/doubletab.png" border="0" alt="most popular safari extensions" width="372" height="53" />

    With Duplicate Tab Button I can simply duplicate the page, move it over to my second monitor attached to my computer, and blast away with my comment. Duplicate Tab Button is a simple but powerful little tool.

    GToolbar

    If you’re a heavy Google Tools user, BBShare Networking has developed a Google toolbar, similar to the toolbar available for Firefox, that you should probably check out.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/gtoolbar.png" border="0" alt="most popular safari extensions" width="580" height="20" />

    Though it grows your Safari browser by half an inch, it provides you with icons for most all of Google’s popular tools and sites, including Google Search, YouTube, Gmail. Google Reader, Voice and a lot more. The toolbar does clutter up Safari a little, but it’s a faster way of accessing specific Google sites.

    KeySearch

    Another search tool extension is KeySearch. You use it by typing in a keyword for a designated website, such as “youtube,” followed by a topic, and then hit the Return key. KeySearch will navigate to the website and perform the topic search for you. This saves you the trouble of always using Google for searches.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/keysearch2.png" border="0" alt="most popular safari extensions" width="398" height="233" />

    What’s even more powerful about this extension is that you can create keywords for your favorite sites. So for example, to create a keyword for MakeUseOf, simply navigate to the search field of a MUO page, right- or Control-click in the search box and choose “Create keyword for this search” in the drop-down box. You will be asked to give your keyword a name, such as “muo.”

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Screen-shot-2011-05-04-at-9.45.13-AM.png" border="0" alt="extensions for safari" width="580" height="333" />

    Now instead of first navigating to MakeUseOf.com to do a search, you simply type “muo [followed by the topic you're searching for] and hit the Return key. KeySearch will take you to MakeUseOf and do the search for you. Click on the “Edit Keywords” in the KeySearch toolbar to manage your settings.

    ResizeMe 1.0

    One of the downsides of web browsing is that you have to keep re-sizing browser windows to view the content on the page. This is especially a problem for laptops and other smaller screens.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/resizeme-1.png" border="0" alt="extensions for safari" width="340" height="52" />

    Well, the extension ResizeMe may be of some use for this problem. When you click the ResizeMe icon in your Safari toolbar, (after it’s installed of course) it will re-size the frontmost Safari window to the size you set in the preference settings for ResizeMe. These settings are located in Safari > Preferences > Extensions > ResizeMe.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/resizeme.png" border="0" alt="extensions for safari" width="462" height="244" />

    Mindful Browsing

    The Internet is a gigantic encyclopedia of information and an amusement park of entertainment, which means that sometimes it can be a huge distraction when you’re constantly visiting Facebook, Twitter, and other sites you can’t seem to tear your eyeballs from.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/blocked-site-screenshot.png" border="0" alt="safari extensions" width="400" height="348" />

    The extension, Mindful Browsing may well help you with your addiction to visiting specific sites. With Mindful Browsing you will get a warning that you blocked a designated site for certain period of time and/or days. You can ignore the warning if you want, but at least you’ll be reminded that you’re about to feed your addiction yet again. Thus the first step to tearing yourself away from Facebook for three days straight may be downloading and installing Mindful Browsing.

    So these are the top five Safari extensions I’ve recently added to my Safari browser. There are others, including the weather extension tool, Cloudy, Facebook Ads Blocker, and the social network sharing extension, YourVersion, that might also be of interest to you.

    Let us know about your favorite Safari extensions and how you use them. Money-saving App Ookong Debuts for Safari and Updates Chrome Extension

    style="border: 0px none;margin-left:20px;float:right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookongthumb.png" alt="deals on amazon"/>Ookong is a free application that helps you find the best deals on Amazon, and it’s so useful that I’ve mentioned it in two of my previous articles about saving money when shopping online ( href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-firefox-addons-save-money/">3 Useful Firefox Add-ons To Help Save You Money and href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-google-chrome-extensions-save-money-shopping-online/">3 Google Chrome Extensions to Save $$$ When Shopping Online).

    The Ookong team has made new developments with their service, including a brand-new extension for href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/safari/">Safari and a substantially updated extension for href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/google-chrome/">Google Chrome. In this article, I’ll show you how to use Ookong to save some of your hard-earned cash when shopping at Amazon, and cover some features you might not have seen before.

    id="more-52299">

    Ookong for Safari

    Now that Safari href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-safari-extensions-find-official-extensions-gallery/">supports extensions, you can enjoy some sweet money-saving goodness while using Apple’s browser.  First up, make sure to install the latest version of Safari from href="http://www.apple.com/safari/">Apple’s download site. While you can get Ookong from the Safari Extensions Gallery, you should get it from href="http://www.ookong.com/news/ookong-safari-extension">Ookong’s official Safari homepage to install the newest version (as of this writing, version 1.6.0 was available from Ookong.com while only 1.1 was available in the Safari Extensions Gallery).  Click the link in “Please get the latest version from here”, as shown below.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookong2.png" alt="deals on amazon"/>

    Once you’ve installed Ookong, you’ll have a new icon in your toolbar (a big K). Clicking this button will instantly pull up a search box where you can look for anything on Amazon.com. You can also enter a friend’s email address to view their Amazon Wish List, which is great for finding deals on gifts.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookong-3-1.jpg" alt="amazon secret deals"/>

    When you find something you’re interested in, simply click the Follow it button and Ookong will automatically track that product’s price history and provide you with alerts when the price drops!

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookong4.png" alt="amazon secret deals"/>

    style="border: 0px none;margin-left:20px;float:right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookong5.png" />When the price of an item on your Follow list drops, you’ll see a notification on the Ookong icon (shown on the right). You can also view items you’re currently watching by clicking the Ookong button and selecting Follow List. The Follow List will show you current prices as well as historical highs and lows.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookong6.png" alt="amazon secret deals"/>

    To see a product’s price history, click the Graph button. This allows you to observe any trends the item might currently be experiencing and make better decisions about when to purchase. If it’s at an all-time high, you might want to Follow the item and come back later.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookong7.png" />

    All of the features I just mentioned are also available when using Amazon normally. The Ookong browser button will change to a graph, where you will once again see historical price information and have the option to follow the item.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookong8.png" alt="amazon deals" />

    Ookong for Chrome, Updated

    When I href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-google-chrome-extensions-save-money-shopping-online/">first covered Ookong for Chrome, it was missing some features that were available in the href="https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/9308/">Firefox version. Not anymore, however – Ookong version 1.5 for Chrome offers everything its open-source counterpart offers.

    To install Ookong for Chrome, head over to its href="https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/gjhnlaeccbboacjkdlopcndknlkjmapp">Chrome Extension page and click the blue Install button.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/ookonga.png" alt="amazon deals"/>

    After installation, a new icon will be in your toolbar (bearing the familiar Ookong logo). Clicking this icon brings up Ookong’s Amazon search just like in the aforementioned Safari extension.

    6 Fun Safari Browser Extensions To Start With

    class="align-left" style="border: 0px none; margin-left: 20px; margin-top: 5px; float: right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/00-Safari-plus-Extensions.jpg" border="0" alt="safari extensions" width="197" height="197" />Along with the Safari 5.0.1 update, Apple officially opened its href="http://extensions.apple.com/">Safari Extensions Gallery. Compared to Firefox’s or Chrome’s list, there aren’t that many extensions listed there yet, as everything still fits into one – rather long – page, but I think it’s a good start.

    While the list might be short, there are already many good and useful extensions that you can install. All you need to do is just point your browser to the gallery and install them.

    id="more-50590">

    Upgrade & Updates

    But first things first. Before you can use any of these extensions, you should upgrade your Safari to href="http://www.apple.com/safari/download/">version 5, and enable extensions from within the “Preferences – Extensions” pane.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/01-Preferences-Extensions.jpg" border="0" alt="safari extensions" width="580" height="250" />

    The pane is also the place for you to enable or disable individual extensions. Select one of the extensions and check/uncheck the “Enable name_of_extension” box.

    If you are one of the href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/safari-5-extensions/">early adopters and you haven’t got the chance to peek at your Extensions library for a while, you might find several updates inside.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/01b-Extensions-Updates-1.jpg" border="0" alt="safari extensions" width="580" height="299" />

    Click “Install All Updates” button to get all the necessary updates, and check the “Install Updates Automatically” box if you don’t want to be bothered with manual updates in the future.

    Finally, clicking the “Get Extensions” button will bring you to the official Safari Extensions Page.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/01c-Get-Extensions.jpg" border="0" alt="safari addons" width="580" height="250" />

    Having Fun With Extensions

    After browsing through the list, I decided to list some extensions which I personally think falls into the “fun” category.

    1. Everything Facebook

      Despite some recent issues with its policy, Facebook has proven time and again that interacting with friends and family will never be boring. If Facebook is one of your ideas of having fun, you might want to try several extensions dedicated to Facebook, such as: href="http://BetterFacebook.net/">Better Facebook, href="http://sonstermedia.com/">Facebook Cleaner, and href="http://www.regisgaughan.com/">Facebook Photo Zoom.

      style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/02-1-Better-Facebook.jpg" border="0" alt="safari addons" width="540" height="171" />

      style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/02-1b-Facebook-Photo-Zoom.jpg" border="0" alt="safari addons" width="286" height="186" />

    2. Everything Tweeter

      But if tweeting is your thing, you’ll be glad to know that there are many tweeter-related extensions for Safari, namely: href="http://cosmicmission.com/">Echofon It, href="http://contraintes.inria.fr/~soliman/loisirs.html.en#nambu">Nambu, href="http://juliankussman.com/">TweetBar, href="http://www.kosmix.com/">Tweetbeat Firsthand, href="http://ostrichapp.com/">Ostrich, and the official href="http://www.twitter.com/">Tweeter for Safari.

      style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/09-Tweeter.jpg" border="0" alt="safari addons" width="550" height="125" />

      Aside from the official Tweeter extension, my personal favorite is Tweetbeat Firsthand as it will show you the recent tweets from people and groups mentioned on the web page you’re viewing.

    3. href="http://rapportive.com/">Rapportive

      This extension will help you to know the email sender better. In the sidebar, you will be able to see more information about the sender like photo, occupation and his/her location on the map.The extension is working automatically with GMail occupying the usual ads spot. It’s also available for Firefox and Chrome.

      style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/02-4-Rapportive-1.jpg" border="0" alt="safari plugins" width="550" height="300" />

    4. href="http://robwilkerson.org/">FlickrPlus

      Photography is an art that I’ve yet to master. That’s why beautiful photos always amaze me as I know they are not always easy to acquire. Flickr is a place where you can learn so much about taking good photos. But the area is not limited to photographers and the wannabes. Anybody can stroll around the site and enjoy the scenery. The href="http://robwilkerson.org/">FlickrPlus will show you more than meets the eye.

      style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/10-Flickr-Plus.jpg" border="0" alt="safari plugins" width="350" height="140" />

    5. href="http://www.supernifty.com.au/">Speed Scrabble Notifier

      Care for a little game to spend your spare time? Why not try some word play? You can compete against the computer or versus other players. The number of online players will be shown automatically on the extension button next to the URL bar. Just press the button anytime you want to play.

      style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/02-7-Speed-Scrabble-Online.jpg" border="0" alt="safari plugins" width="550" height="274" />

    6. href="http://extensions.apple.com/">Franker

      If you are the kind of person who loves to know more about foreign languages, Franker is the perfect tool for you. This extension is inspired by Ilya Frank’s method of language learning and works a little differently from the usual Google Translate. Instead of translating the whole page, Franker allows you to select only a phrase or sentence and places the translation right after the selected item. Just right click on the selected text and choose “Frankate Selection“.

      style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/02-7-Frankate-Selection.jpg" border="0" alt="02 7 Frankate Selection.jpg" width="550" height="250" />

      I tried the tool on Amazon Japan’s site, and here’s the result.

      style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/02-8-Translation.jpg" border="0" alt="02 8 Translation.jpg" width="550" height="170" />

    As an additional note at the end, I just want to add that the process of installing these extensions is far easier if you do it from the Safari Extensions Gallery page as everything will be done automatically.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/01f-Installing-Extensions.jpg" border="0" alt="01f Installing Extensions.jpg" width="340" height="360" />

    And as I’ve mentioned above, the list is based on my personal subjective opinion. Since the term “fun” is different from one person to another; feel free to browse around, pick your own fun extensions, and share them with us using the comments below. />

    Apple’s Safari 4 Web Browser

    Safari is the default browser on OS X. The new version Apple Safari 4.0 is presented by Apple as the web browser faster and faster than Firefox, Opera or Camino. Safari is light and reliable and fully developed.Safari is also described as a navigation tool for aesthetic and intelligent.

    Apple’s Safari 4 Web browser

    The new engine Nitro internal Safari allows the browser to display even more enhanced performance. This is true not only for displaying web pages but also for the execution of JavaScript code (8 times faster than Internet Explorer 8 and 3 times faster than Firefox, according to the main performance tests).
    Key features of Safari:

    Apple’s Safari 4 Web browser

    * The ability to archive a web page. Simply go to the menu File / Save As and save your web page to Web Archive. The entire page content (text, images, photos etc. ..) will be listed here in this archive!

    Chrome Vs Firefox Vs Safari: Speed, Stability and Compatibility Comparison (Mac)

    Chrome beta recently launched for Mac OSX which made today a fitting time for a browser smack-down. In this round I compare speed, stability, and compatibility between three of the top web browsers: chrome, firefox, and safari. Overall, there was no clear cut winner from these tests but firefox’s inability to keep my faith is pushing me down the chrome pathway. It’s only been one day but I’m fed up with firefox crashing, lagging, and freezing. Which browser do you think is the best? Which are you using? Leave your feedback in the comments bellow. Its on! Mac OSX browser wars? Apple Safari? Firefox? Google Chrome? Opera? Microsoft Internet Explorer?

    Its on! Mac OSX browser wars? Apple Safari? Firefox? Google Chrome? Opera? Microsoft Internet Explorer?

    Ok. Let me explain what my thoughts on these various browsers for Mac OSX. Here are some thoughts:

    1. Firefox-it is so slow on my old Mac Mini G4. It is feature rich but what is the point of using if it feels like a half an hour to load up. They even promised a faster version. Also, Firefox has been so wonky lately I cannot get it working my Windows system for some reason. Also, it seems my OSX version has missing important icons with no explanation
    2. Safari-quite good and tight and light browser. No complaints on this one but it is my usual default browser.
    3. Chrome-I love this browser so much I use it for my Windows system. It is compact, compatible with Mozilla that all the major browsers are built on, and easy to use. The best part is how you tear apart each browsing session and it has it’s own system process. That is quite innovative but you can always expect that from the PHDs at Google.
    4. Opera-a fast and rather up to date browser for the Mac OSX operating system. It is not small but as good as Firefox for Mac. Unless you have an Intel processor in your Mac, I would go with Firefox. If not, I would go with Opera.
    5. Microsoft Internet Explorer- I do remember that Microsoft developed a really old version of it. It has now been discontinued for Mac OSX. As for Windows, I try to avoid this browser at all costs. From my understanding, hackers love to target this browser due to it is not so secure features. That might have changed in their latest version but I don’t use it enough. I only use thing when large sites are only compatible with Micrsoft Internet Explorer. Don’t ask me why site designers do this.

    My recommendation for OSX, go with Opera if your Mac is not Intel based. Wait for Chrome as well once it comes out for Mac. Also, Firefox might be fine for those on Intel based Macs. Just my thought
