4 Things You Should Stop Joking About Online [Opinion]

class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/keyboard.png?323f2c" alt="things you shouldn't joke about" />No longer must we use title="The 4 Stages Of Social Networking With Old Friends [Opinion]" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-stages-social-networking-friends-opinion/">smoke signals to communicate. Long gone are the days in which we used cave walls to document events. It’s an title="Make Your Dumb Phone Smart With ifttt" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/dumb-phone-smart-ifttt/">age of technology, a time in which we are supposed to be advanced. However, even in such an advanced age, it seems as though Internet society has become incredibly lenient about a variety of very important social issues.

I’m not a fan of making light of stuff that actually hurts people, and it’s not even a matter of being offended – I’m not. However, I do worry about how desensitized we have become to these issues.

Pedophilia

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/pedophilia.png?323f2c" alt="things you shouldn't joke about" width="580" height="185" />

I really don’t know when pedophilia became funny. Why is it okay to casually reference participation in sexual acts with children? Sure, I get it. You know that pedophilia is wrong, and for some odd reason, this is why you joke about it – a possible way of coping. However, I believe that the more we joke about it, the more laid-back we will become around it. We don’t take it as title="Why Reddit Isn’t As Bad As Some People Would Make You Believe [Opinion]" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/reddit-bad-people-opinion/">seriously anymore.

Do I think this joking will lead to common acceptance of pedophilia? Nah. I’m not a conspiracist like that. However, I wish that just for once we can let the fact that there are people out there who want to have their way with children break our hearts a little bit. These folks want to rob the innocence of young boys and girls, and we make light of it by posting a picture of Chris Hansen or Pedobear. That’s kind of ridiculous.

Rape

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/rape.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="180" />

Rape isn’t cool, and joking about it isn’t either. I’ve never been a rape victim, and I can’t say I plan on it. However, the word “rape” is thrown around too casually on the Internet these days. (Just to clarify, I don’t believe usages of the phrase such as “raped my childhood” or “raped my memories” would fall under this category, but that’s really up to your discretion.)

Once again, this isn’t an issue of me being offended, because being offended does nothing in this world. However, I do worry that seeing rape jokes on the Internet may bring up some harsh memories or feelings for actual rape victims. If you’re heartless, you may believe that these folks need to get over it and stop living in the past. However, until you’ve actually had such an experience, I don’t want to hear that kind of opinion.

Killing

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/whitemendie.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="185" />

Ladies and gentlemen, why must you insist on saying you wish someone would die? I don’t care if you wouldn’t actually do it, but have we gotten to a point where such hateful thoughts are acceptable? Behind the wall of the Faceless Username, cowardly individuals will come out saying that they wish that other individuals should die or, even worse, that they would kill them if they could. We’re talking about the removal of a life, here.

I’m not referring to the casual, all-in-fun, “I will kill you if you do that one more time!” Of course not, for people tend to rag on each other all the time and say this. However, what I am referring to are words that are obviously fueled by title="6 Things The Internet Has Taught Me About Etiquette [Opinion]" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/6-internet-taught-etiquette-opinion/">hate and anger. If the intention of this (non-fruitful) death threat is to emotionally hurt the person on the other side of the computer screen, then something needs to change.

Suicide

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/suicide.png?323f2c" alt="things you shouldn't joke about" width="580" height="180" />

Right up there with death threats, we have issues concerning suicide. I’ve seen a few instances where someone posts online about their thoughts of committing suicide, and then people will swoop in saying things such as “do it” or “if killing yourself will make you happy, then go for it”. It’s akin to a person standing on top of a skyscraper with a crowd of people below, screaming for him to jump.

How disgusting is this? I understand that many folks have varying views on euthanasia, but here’s what I believe when it comes to the Internet. You are not a professional, you don’t know the context of the person’s situation, and you have no clue what their life is like. If anything, I would say report the post and provide them with words of encouragement. However, if you know that your words will seem condescending in any form or fashion… shut up. Please. You’re dealing with a life that has so much potential, and the slightest thing could ruin it.

Many of you may comment on here that folks that post these things are only title="4 Things That Really Annoy Me In Tech Today [Opinion]" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-annoy-tech-today-opinion/">seeking attention and won’t actually do anything. To that I say that you should treat every hint of suicide as if the person will actually do it. If you decide to make the call that they won’t, and then they do, there’s a high chance that you will live with blood on your hands forever.

Conclusion

These are just four things that I believe the Internet makes too much light of. Is it a perfect post? Of course not. However, I hope it made you think a little bit.

What other things should people stop joking about on the Internet? Do you disagree with any of the items mentioned here?

    5 Things You Need To Stop Posting On Facebook

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/facebook_logo_300x300.jpg" alt="things you shouldnt post on facebook" />We’ve discussed things that href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/annoying-people-twitter/">annoy Dave on Twitter, and we’ve even talked about how you may have href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-ways-sold-soul-internet/">compromised your security on the Internet. However, it seems as if href="http://www.makeuseof.com/facebook">Facebook brings both of those topics together.

    From security messes to major nuisances, there are a lot of things that shouldn’t be shared on the Internet. Get ready to readjust your security and delete your posts, for here are five things you shouldnt post on Facebook.

    Current Locations

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/locale.png" alt="things you shouldnt post on facebook" width="580" height="155" />

    Ladies and gentlemen, how many times must we tell you that nothing is sacred on the Internet? If you put it out there, anyone could see it, so why would you post truly sensitive information? Yes, Facebook offers you the ability to publish information about your href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/foursquare/">current location (and who you are with), but do you really want that online?

    Consider the unfortunate New Hampshire tale of the thieves who used Facebook to find out when homeowners href="http://www.wmur.com/r/24943582/detail.html">happened to be away. The second you put it out there that you’re “going to party it up in Louisiana for the next three days with Gordon”, then your home is automatically open game (and so is Gordon’s). Furthermore, don’t tell me that you’re fine just because your account has private status updates. Your friends’ accounts could be compromised, so you never actually know who’s watching your feed.

    New Technological Toys

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/mac.png" alt="things you shouldnt post on facebook" width="580" height="345" />

    This one goes right in line with the first section of this article – “Hey guys, just got my brand new really expensive MacBook Air….gonna leave it at my house totally unguarded and out in the open while I’m down at the bar with Gordon! Hope no one finds the spare key under my welcome mat!”

    As much as I want to celebrate with you on your brand new toy, you have to keep in mind that some people might want to do a little more than celebrate. They may just want to take it, so if you are unlike me and do not keep your Mac on you everywhere you go, then it might not be best to put that kind of information out in the open.

    Facebook’s New Payment System

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/membership.png" alt="things you shouldnt post on facebook" width="580" height="186" />

    Oh my goodness! My friends, Facebook has told you time and time again that they will never make it a paid service, so why do you insist on posting these status updates?

    FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP. $9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD MEMBER SERVICES, $6.99 PER… />

    You’ve seen it before, folks. These chain updates have been passed around numerous times over the past few years, and nothing has ever come of them. Besides, I’m pretty sure Zuckerberg might have a better way of notifying us of a new paid service than an all-caps lengthy chain update, so please stop. If you want to check out how Facebook makes money, check out Steve’s article about href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-do-social-networks-make-money-case-wondering/">how social networks make money.

    Impersonal Personal Messages

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/vague.png" alt="things you shouldnt post on facebook" width="580" height="116" />

    This one is a little more of nuisance than the other ones, but it is definitely worth mentioning. For some reason, people feel the need to vaguely express their feelings about others through status updates. Sometimes, they will even write seemingly indirect messages that are actually meant for someone else.

    “I wish SUMBODY hadnt cheated on meh wit SUMBODY that MITE B mii best fran!!!11!1!”

    I don’t think I really have to go into it much further, for one of two things will happen because of this. Either the people reading this status update know exactly who you are talking about, or the people reading this status update don’t know who you are talking about, and quite frankly, they probably don’t care. Help stop wall pollution by refusing to publish this type of status update, and as a matter of fact, spread the word!

    Your Vacation Pictures

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/vacation.png" alt="" width="580" height="230" />

    This one is mostly directed at the ladies, but I can think of a few situations where it might affect the men, too. Look, I’m not here to judge you on what you do in your spare time, but I thought you might want to know that some of your vacation pictures – particularly ones of you at the beach – may end up on the Internet in places you would prefer they weren’t.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/cubes.png" alt="things you shouldnt post on facebook" width="580" height="169" />

    You see, there’s a download link next to mostly every picture – real easy to find. Keep in mind that you may have added a few creeps on Facebook “just to be nice”, and they may have a tendency to make use of it. Also, like I mentioned above, anyone’s account could be compromised.

    Oh, and this goes beyond your vacation pictures. Halloween is coming up pretty soon, too.

    Conclusion

    I obviously can’t tell you what to stop posting on Facebook, but I can do everything within my ability to explain why you should stop posting these things. It’s really your choice on the matter, but keep in mind that this advice goes for other social networks too (like href="http://www.makeuseof.com/google-plus">Google+ and href="http://www.makeuseof.com/twitter">Twitter).

    What types of things do you think people need to stop posting on Facebook? Do you disagree with any of the items mentioned above?

    How To Stop Erratic Cursor Behaviour When Typing [Mac]

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Mac-Cursor-300x300.jpg" alt="" />Have you noticed sometimes that your Mac cursor jumps around all over the place? One minute you’re typing away and the next minute it’s highlighting random text or typing from somewhere completely unexpected. If you have this problem, you’ll know it’s a huge pain, because you find you spend more time fixing the errors it causes than actually getting on with the typing task at hand.

    For some of us, help is easy to find. Others, not quite so easy. This seems to be something that occurs due to a number of different causes. We’ll go through several causes and fixes for this and hopefully one of them will work for you.

    This really is an annoying problem for Mac OS X users, as it makes typing practically impossible. Even when you’re very careful not to touch the trackpad, it seems to unexpectedly jump a few lines, highlight text, type over that highlighted text and randomly ruin your whole efforts to type. Sometimes it can seem as if you’re typing CMD-Z as often as you’re typing text. But don’t worry – you’re not alone and it can be fixed.

    1. Ignore Accidental Trackpad Input

    The simplest fix is ensuring you’re not accidentally bumping your trackpad while you type. Go into Apple Menu > System Preferences and check your trackpad settings. For Snow Leopard, there’s a “Trackpad” section, while for earlier Mac OS X systems it will be under “Mouse & Keyboard“. Open this and ensure that “Ignore accidental trackpad input” is selected. For many users, this will sort the problem out for you in no time.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Ignore-accidental-trackpad-input2.png" alt="" />

    2. Ignore Trackpad When Mouse Is Present

    Connect a USB mouse and go into Apple Menu > System Preferences > Mouse preferences (or “Mouse & Keyboard“). Set your system to “Ignore trackpad when mouse is present“. Now hopefully whenever you’ve connected a mouse you should have no problems with erratic cursors.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/USB-Mouse.png" alt="" />

    3. Check Your Laptop Is Still Flat

    Some older Macbooks can develop erratic trackpad behaviour when the laptop casing gets slightly twisted. This might be because of something habitual you do, such as carrying the laptop in the same position each day or resting it on your lap. Rest it on a flat surface and press on one end to see if your laptop is still perfectly flat. If it’s not, take it in to an Apple shop and see if they will twist it back to flat for you. Don’t do this yourself if your laptop is still under warranty!

    4. Your Battery Might Be Failing

    Some users have reported that this erratic cursor behaviour is linked to battery failure on their laptop. To test if you’re in this boat, try removing the battery and running the laptop on power only. If your cursor behaves nicely while the battery is out, you might want to consider replacing the battery on your laptop.

    5. Upgrade To Lion

    If all else fails, it’s possible that class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/extensive-guide-upgrading-osx-lion-making-installation-disks-mac">an upgrade to Lion will fix this problem. A few users have reported that although nothing else worked, using Lion finally fixed the problems they’d been having with their cursor.

    More Mac Fixes

    While you’re fixing things, here’s a few more class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/service/mac/">Mac OS X tricks and hacks you might find useful.

    Adware Removal Software to Stop Popups That Will Not Stop

    If you suddenly notice that popups will not stop appearing on your screen, then you may need to use adware removal software to get rid of this problem as most popups are caused by a type of malware called adware. This can be extremely annoying as every time you try to go online or open up a new browser, many popups will appear. Some of these popups will contain questionable content and many are advertisements.

    Adware is actually a type of software that downloads to your computer that causes the popups and this can cause many system errors and can even be connected to dangerous spyware. If you get a buildup of adware, your computer can continuously freeze, run very slowly and possibly develop blue screen errors.

    The best way to get rid of adware is to use adware removal software as this will scan your entire system to see if you have adware and then get rid of it. You can purchase this software or download free versions online. Just make sure that anything you download from the internet does not contain spyware or additional adware.

    You want to be specifically vigilant against adware as the spyware that could also download can gather your personal and financial information. Adware is much more dangerous than you may think as it does more than just create popups.

    The best removal software will get rid of all the adware on your system as well as the code from your registry file. This will also protect your computer from other adware accessing your system. To completely protect your computer, you should run a scan at least once a week.

    The software you use should also update frequently as your software will need to have the correct definitions to protect itself against the latest developed adware. A few excellent recommendations include No Adware, Spyware Remover and Adware Alert.

    Popups Will Not Stop – Use Adware Remover

    If you find that pop-ups will not stop when you open your internet browser, then you should use an adware remover. Adware is a specific type of malware as it occurs in the form of advertisements that will continually pop up when you are online. Normally when you try to close a popup, even more will appear. The popups can get to be very annoying and many times contain pornography.

    Adware is very dangerous because besides creating popups. It can also cause your entire system to crash and can even contain types of spyware which will gather your personal information. If enough adware accesses and installs on your computer, it can slow down performance significantly and cause freezes or even blue screen errors.

    If you think you have ad-ware on your computer, then you should use an adware removal program and scan your system. There are free adware removal programs available online and most comprehensive security programs will scan for adware. Be carefully when downloading a program as many will contain adware themselves in disguise.

    Adware is very dangerous because besides creating popups, it can also cause your entire system to crash and can even contain types of spyware which will gather your personal information.

    A good adware removal program will get rid of all ad-ware infections. Be aware that these removal programs do not protect against any new adware from installing so you should run a scan about once a week to get rid of any new adware that may access and install in your computer.

    The best adware removal programs will provide you with frequent updates as new adware are coming out daily and you need to be aware of which adware your computer needs to look for. Realize that a spyware removal program will not necessarily protect you against adware. A few good anti-adware program choices include No Adware, Ad-Aware and Stopzilla etc.

    Dll Corrupt In Windows Xp – Stop these Errors !

    Unexpected windows errors such as a dll corrupt in windows xp can create all kinds of performance problems. Many times it comes from nowhere, right in the middle of an important assignment, and right after that you try to understand what happened and how it can be solved. Read my short article and i’ll show you how you can eliminate it in a single mouse click.

    Before we discuss how to solve these problems, remember one thing – it doesn’t matter how complex computers are, with today’s technology it is much easier to identify and repair various system malfunctions. If you don’t know what dlls are, here is a quick review. These files which are known as dlls are part of any application; they include an important data which is critical for your installed programs to be able to run. Dll problems in many cases arise after installing a new version of software over an ‘older’ version, and when removing applications from your pc. When an improper installation/un-install process takes place, then this is a good reason why you start experiencing these annoying system malfunctions and error messages.

    Luckily, many of these error message are ‘fixable’ even if you haven’t got a slight idea about how to handle these issues – you can quite fast ‘clean’ a dll corrupt in windows xp by running a well designed Windows registry repair application. These software solutions focus on examining your Windows and repairing various windows problems including ‘corrupted’ DLLs. The quickest way to try and repair these annoying errors can be done by examining your windows system with one of these programs – most of these programs provide free pc scan.

    Just before you spend days and nights on extra web search, or paying hundreds for a technician to fix this dll corrupt in windows xp, I would recommend you to install one of these registry fixing tools and let it automatically scan all your dlls, spot and eliminate the problem (there are probably several hundreds to several thousands of dlls in an average pc). Take the opportunity – the majority of these solutions not only provide free pc scan, but completely free errors ‘cleaning’ (partial cleaning), so you don’t want to miss a free opportunity to repair this problem once and for all.

    Windows XP Registry Scan -Stop Lockups And Crashes

    It always seem to happen, every time you have an important deadline, your old Windows XP computer starts to act up.  Lock ups, freezes, slowness, you name it, your computer just won’t cooperate.  What can you do in this situation?    When experienced users have these kinds of problems, it’s time for a Windows XP registry scan.

    Ok, just how does one do a Windows XP registry scan?  Well, experienced computer technicians can examine the registry file manually and often find the source of your computer problem, but we mere mortals need to find an automated solution.

    The newer versions of Windows have not been too popular; so many users have chosen to keep running Windows XP.  Registry scan software comes in very handy for these older computers, as the registry (the main nerve center for the PC), gets corrupted, resulting in the common computer problems mentioned above.  So how do you get a program that does this registry repair?  It’s a simple download from the web.

    There are dozens of programs that advertise that you can easily fix your registry problems.  Some of the programs are not so good – choose a program with a high rating that has been tested carefully.  You do no want to mess up your computer even more by using poor software.

    So if you have a tight deadline, and your computer start to act strangely, have a good registry cleaning utility on hand.  In just a few clicks, you can have your computer running faster, saving you time and without the risk of expensive data loss.

    Repair IE In Windows Xp – Stop these Irritating Errors !

    If you’ve found yourself experiencing IE Windows XP problems, and if like most people you have no idea where and how to fix it, then relax, this issue will soon be a thing of the past. If you take a few moments to read what follows, you’ll soon see that you, by yourself, have the ability to solve this inconvenient problem, as well as others, in just a few clicks.

    First we need to talk about the reason for this type of difficulty. With all the new software available these days, you probably update your windows with the latest programs, when it becomes ‘crowded’ in our windows system; so after a period of time we may start experiencing problems. Improperly or incompletely loading or unloading applications can many times damage one of windows most complex areas, which is called your windows registry.

    An impaired registry can be to blame for such frustrating occurrences as IE Windows XP problems and a variety of pc difficulties. It’s the function of the registry to manage all of your sw and hw installations/removals and updates. When you install a software application on your pc, it registers that software’s various settings, including where the software can be found and what it needs to operate. In the case of corruption in this part of the registry, then you can expect varied troubles with your pc to make themselves ‘known’.

    Anyway, whenever you experience IE Windows XP problems, before you do anything else, you should search the windows registry in order to learn the exact sector that’s responsible. The quickest and most effective method for this is to make use of a specialized registry cleaner; in almost no time, the registry fixing application will do a thorough search, pinpointing whatever trouble spots there are and automatically fixing them! In most cases, these utilities allow a certain number of no charge registry scans and repairs, therefore, you have a risk-free opportunity to repair your registry. it’s very likely that this type of computer trouble will become a thing of the past. Take note: please don’t take a stab at working on the complex registry yourself; you can end up causing even more pc problems.

    STOP ?0

    STOP error message is generally a 8-digit hexadecimal number which occurs when a Windows NT- based system encounters a serious problem related to any hardware or software issues. The STOP error message makes the system unbootable and the hard drive data becomes inaccessible. In such situations, you can use a recent and valid backup to restore your lost data. However, if there is no backup or it is incomplete, then you need to use a powerful windows data recovery software for complete retrieval of your lost data.

    Take a practical example- you have installed NEROv6.3.1.17 in your Windows XP based computer, and during its use or just after the process, you get the below error message:

    “Stop Error: 0*000000C5 (parameter1, Parameter2,
    Parameter3, Parameter4)

    Beginning Dump of Physical Memory!”

    The above STOP error message restricts the system to boot and also causes the inaccessibility of hard drive data. Additionally, you encounter the same error message, each time you try to boot your system.

    Reason of this behavior:

    Following are the causes of the above error message:

    Corruption of system pool.

    Damaged device drivers.

    How to solve this issue?

    This issue can be rectified in following manner:

    Try to uninstall NERO v6.3.1.17 from your computer system.

    Use the latest service pack of Windows XP operating system.

    Re-install Windows XP operating system.

    When you perform a clean re-install of the Windows XP operating system, all the previously stored data in the hard disk gets deleted. So before re-installing your operating system, make sure that you have a complete and updated backup for your data. Stop Windows Xp Crash – How to Stop Windows Xp Crash

    Windows xp crash can happen so frequently even if it is a more robust operating system as compared to Windows XP. The most common error is the Blue Screen of Death, or simply called BSoD, which will appear on your screen then your computer will crash. Apart from BSoD, sometimes you will experience a Windows xp crash during boot up, while surfing the Internet, or when running an application. It messes up your system but this problem can actually be avoided by following these tips:

    1. Update your drivers. Incompatible drivers can cause Windows xp crashes. It is extremely important to have dedicated drivers which are both hardware specific and accurately match your operating system. Since Windows xp is still considered a “newer” operating system, there might be programs in your computer which are not compatible yet with this OS. These applications or devices were not designed for the OS, thus a driver update is essential.

    2. Run a virus and spyware scan. Malicious software or malware corrupts your files and will do damage to your Windows xp like random crashing. Perform a regular scan to check for these viruses and spyware. Once detected, remove them from your system. Make sure also to always download the latest security and virus definition updates.

    3. Clean your Windows Registry. The registry is a database used to store information that Windows continually references during operation. The data stored in the registry accumulates over time producing redundant and obsolete entries. These entries create errors because they are no longer needed which causes the computer to operate slowly and Windows xp to crash. Windows Registry can be cleaned with these unwanted entries using a registry cleaner software. Due to the complexity of the registry, manual cleaning is not possible as the unless you are a computer expert.

    Registry cleaner software, aside from clearing up invalid registry entries, has backup and restore features which allows users to undo changes in case they are undesired. It is a must to always maintain a clean registry in order to improve your computer’s speed, optimize its performance, and fix Windows xp crashing.

    Sick of your Xp crashing? Want to repair computer errors the easy way? Scan your computer for free and fix a Windows xp crash with the #1 registry cleaner on the internet. After scanning your computer, I promise you will be quite surprised by all the errors on your system.

    Stop Typing The Same Words Again and Again with MyWords [Firefox]

    I love discovering new, little-known and seldom-discussed FireFox addons that offer some unique and very useful features. GrabThemAll was one such extension I previously shared.

    The addon I am sharing today has some similar features to the desktop tools Karl reviewed a while back: PhraseExpress and Texter. Like these two, this addon allows to create the database of phrases you find yourself typing again and again.

    MyWords is a simplistic yet very usable tool that works as a basic text replacement software for FireFox. It can be a great find for those who type a lot from within the browser.

    Don’t expect too much from the tool but give it a try if you:

    1. Type a lot but usually shy away from advanced text replacement and form-autocomplete tools;
    2. Love little usable utilities that are there only if you need them.

    First, have the addon installed and restart the browser. Now, let’s see the tool in action.

    Set up the word database

    To access your database, you should do either of the two:

    Go to: Tools -> Addons – MyWords (Options)

    Or right-click on any text field and select MyWords -> Setup MyWords:

    The setup window is very easy to use:

    1. Use “Add” button to add new phrases;
    2. Use arrows to adjust the phrase order (the last one is what you will always see substituted first, so you want your most popular phrase to go the very last):

    Note: I wasn’t geeky enough (and also found no tutorials on that to figure why there’s “label” field there. I tried using it but never saw the point, if anyone here knows why this option exists, please let me know in the comments)

    My Words

    After your database is created, you can use Import/Export option to save it and/or to transfer your word database between computers.

    MyWords import

    Another very important option to set up here is a keyboard shortcut to automatically insert and switch between your phrases. By default, it is ALT+W.

    Mywords - shortcut

    Try using the tool

    Now that your database is more or less complete, you can try using the tool. Proceed to any page with a text input field on it and start playing.

    Right mouse click in any text input area and select one of your saved words to paste at current cursor position.

    MyWords insert

    Note: you can also add a new word to the database in the same manner: select the phrase you just typed and use right-click to access “MyWords” menu and add it the database.

    Add words from right-click menu

    Use the keyboard shortcut (which you set up in one of the above steps) to either:

    • Paste the last favorite phrase at the beginning of the input line and switch between the phrases
    • After you typed first few letters, autocomplete your phrase with one best fitting from your save phrases database.

    What the tool can’t do

    Like I have already mentioned, the functionality is rather basic but more often than not, those simplistic tools are the most usable and reliable. Still, you won’t see the following features (which would be great additions there):

    • Auto-complete feature while you are typing without the need to use the shortcut;
    • The ability to add some templates of longer text blocks with variables like, [name_of_person], [deadline_date], and so on. You can customize once the text is pasted in the form.

    Do you use any similar tool for FireFox? Can you recommend anything? Share them in the comments.

    Computer Tools to Stop Spyware Issues

    Before I start, I want to make clear the fact that not everyone affords licensed spyware software thus the need for free downloadable tools for spyware and spybots removal. These being said, computer security is one of the top priorities when it comes to online browsing. If you have a personal computer and you don’t consider it a good investment to buy security software, just download free spybot removat tools.

    If you don’t know where to get this software from, do a search using “free Spybot Search and Destroy Download” and the first link that is displayed is the one you need. Since you really need to upgrade you computer security, you could try to download a freeware antivirus. Usually, the new versions of antivirus protection also offer an active protection against spyware and spybots.

    Quick Note: Taking the Nonsense out of looking for the right spyware remover

    If you really want to take the work out of looking for that right Spyware Protection from a Spybot go to the Internet and get a Free Spybot Download or a Spybot Search and Destroy

    to prevent your vital information from being ripped from your computer.

    Removal tools such as these, make life a lot less complicated when it comes protecting your information. Even big companies invest lots of money in computer security and even more in acquiring licenses and updates for the existing software. We can’t compare with them but that doesn’t mean that we need to spend money in our personal computer’s security. I see no point in doing this when there is available software that is more than capable of handling the job. Take my advice and use them because they might work a lot better than licensed software and you don’t have to worry about security updates, they come also free.
