5 Websites To Tell You Where The Next ”Flash Mob” Is Going To Take Place Or To Organize One Yourself

class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/flash-mob-thumb.jpg" alt="" />Just a few days back (November 27), a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/Flash-mob-hits-Mumbais-CST-station-surprises-commuters/articleshow/10931020.cms">flash mob hit the financial capital of my country (Mumbai, India). Alarmed? Don’t be. Flash mobs aren’t a mass of people on a rampage, but more of a semi-coordinated gathering of people for the purpose of fun and play. It is usually a spontaneous public performance like a dance or clapping session. href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_mob">Wikipedia has more on this latest social trend.

When it comes to a social trend, most of don’t like to left out. Flash mobs are the latest hysterical rage. Though they appear to be unplanned, they are in fact orchestrated with the help of mobile and social media. Facebook and Twitter help to spread the word to the world.

Tina’s previous post on href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/flash-mob-participate-examples/">What A Flash Mob Is & How You Can Participate touched upon it first. Here we hunt for a few more clues.

href="http://www.flashmobamerica.com/">Flash Mob America

class="size-full wp-image-93533 aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/flash-mob01.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="408" />

FMA is an event production and flash mob registration company based out of Los Angeles. They have produced flash mobs for American Red Cross, GLAAD, Heal the Bay, Dell, Oscar Mayer, Suave, Rachael Ray, The Bachelorette, and Modern Family with the motto of ‘Joy thru Surprise’. As an individual you probably won’t be able to hire them for orchestrated public performances, but you can definitely visit their site and register to participate in the next happening flash mob around town. The organization also has a mailing list.

href="http://flashmob.co.uk/">Flashmob (UK)

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/flash-mob02.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="406" />

This UK site flashes the latest flash mob news from around the world. You can also add your own events by publishing them via the simple form. The site has separate sections for Britain, Europe, Americas, and the world. To stay updated in real time, follow them on Twitter.

href="http://twitter.com/">Twitter

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/flash-mob03.jpg" alt="" width="557" height="454" />

Really take your search for the next flash mob real time on Twitter. The hashtag #Flashmob seems to be doing the rounds quite frequently. Clicking on People results from the sidebar opens up the Twitter page opens up a whole list of flash mob related Twitter feeds. For instance, I found href="http://twitter.com/#%21/FlashMob_MTV">FlashMob_TV which is a new show for MTV looking for members for their FlashMob. Twitter is a great place to locate localized flash mob events and connect to others who are enthusiasts for a bit of spontaneous fun.

href="https://www.facebook.com/">Facebook

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/flash-mob04.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="371" />

I found relatively fewer flash mob related pages on Facebook. There were a few pages of the ilk href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Flash-Mob-Addict/144773192226204">Flash Mob Addict and a few localized ones for specific cities around the globe. The relative sparseness on Facebook makes me think that Twitter is a better bet when it comes to catching real time updates on where the next flash mob is going to be.

href="http://www.meetup.com/">Meet Up

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/flash-mob05.jpg" alt="" width="580" height="409" />

Sites like MeetUp.com are also useful for finding out local flash mobs. As the screen above shows, it could connect you directly to local groups involved in organizing impromptu flash mobs. You can setup alert emails to notify you if any new flash mob events start up in your area.

Organize Your Own Flash Mob

Anyone can start a flash mob. All it takes is an original idea and an event to stage it for. Flash mobs can be set up for fun or awareness. You will have better chances of gathering followers if it’s purely for fun as any groupie activity with serious undertones could push people away. The web has umpteen resources on how to go about organizing flash mobs.

  • href="http://www.movements.org/how-to/entry/organize-a-smart-mobs">Movements.org – How to Organize A Flash Mob
  • href="http://people.howstuffworks.com/how-to-plan-a-flash-mob3.htm">How Stuff Works – How to Plan A Flash Mob
  • href="http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Start-A-Flash-Mob/">Instructables.com – How To Start A Flash Mob

You can keep on searching the web for more hints and tips, but I think these three should cover it. The best way to learn how it’s all put together is to volunteer to one and learn the ropes from the inside. So, do you think flash mobs are just a social fad and like all fads destined to die out? Or do you think our world could do with more if it? Let us know in the comments.

3 Tools To Remind Yourself To Take A Break & Relax While Working At The Computer

class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Breaks08b.png" border="0" alt="relax at work" />Working on the computer may not be very physical, nevertheless it’s tough on your body. Sitting all day can hurt your lower back and has a negative impact on your circulation. Extensive typing can stiffen the muscles in your upper back and neck, and finally staring at the screen for hours on end is very tiring and can cause serious problems, such as dry eyes. Moreover, office work has been associated with insomnia and anxiety. If you are damned to spend your working hours behind a desk, you had better find ways to do something good for your body.

The good news is that short breaks of class="vt-p" title="MakeUseOf Tag: Relax" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/relax/">relaxing and stretching can do wonders for your class="vt-p" title="MakeUseOf Tag: Health Tips" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/health-tips/">health and well being. And who doesn’t like to take breaks during work? In this article I will show you tools you can integrate into your workday to remind you that you need to take a break.

class="vt-p" title="Protect Your Vision" href="http://www.protectyourvision.org/">EVO

EVO is a website helper which runs your selection of a default or custom timer that will remind you of a 5 or 10 minute break. The setup is simplistic and not intrusive. During the screen, EVO can black out your screen and count down the time of your break.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Breaks01.png" border="0" alt="take a break" />

EVO also provides instructions for eye gymnastics that you can go through during your break.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Breaks02.png" border="0" alt="eye gymnastics" />

The creators of EVO have also launched a website that has information about the class="vt-p" title="Computer Vision Syndrome" href="http://computer-vision-syndrome.org/">Computer Vision Syndrome.

class="vt-p" title="Big Stretch Reminder" href="http://www.monkeymatt.com/bigstretch/">Big Stretch Reminder (Windows)

Big Stretch Reminder is a reminder app designed to remind you to do regular stretches during your work day. It comes with a variety of options, including custom settings. You can select the time between breaks from a list of predefined options or create a custom setting.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Breaks07.png" border="0" alt="stretch reminder" />

For the reminder mode you can choose between a non-intrusive balloon mode or an intrusive popup mode. The third option, the micro-break mode, is of the intrusive popup type. The message that is shown along with your break reminder can be a random tip or customized.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Breaks06.png" border="0" alt="take a break" />

class="vt-p" title="Breaker" href="http://davidevitelaru.com/software/breaker/">Breaker (Windows)

If you’re a workaholic who has no trouble getting lost in work and forgetting the time, then you should try Breaker. It’s a simple software that lets you set up breaks individually in a loop or pattern.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Breaks03.png" border="0" alt="break reminder software" />

The app runs in the system tray and when you hover over it you can see the countdown to your next break. Once the time has run out, a quiet alarm and a little window in the bottom right of the screen reminds you that it’s time for a break or to get back to work.

class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Breaks04.png" border="0" alt="countdown" />

Since Breaker allows the creation of custom patterns, it is also a great tool to easily remind yourself of meetings or appointments scattered throughout the day.

You can find more reminder apps class="vt-p" title="MakeUseOf Tag: Reminder" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/tag/reminder/">here. For things to do during your breaks, check out the following articles:

    4 Ways To Protect Yourself Against Keyloggers

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/keyloggerthumb.png" alt="what is a keylogger" />Keyloggers are one of the most well known and feared security threats on computers today. They’re feared because they are generally hard to detect, and because the damage they do is often meant to extend beyond the infected computer. A virus may seek to crash a computer, ruin its hard drive, or take some files, but a keylogger is usually employed to take personal information, be it a password or credit card number.

    There are many ways to protect against keyloggers, however, and ensure that you don’t become a victim of identify theft or have to deal with any lesser hassle, like a hijacked World of Warcraft account. While no defense is perfect, these steps improve your chances.

    Use A Firewall

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/zonealarm1.jpg" alt="what is a keylogger" width="580" height="455" />

    In most instances, a href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/keylogger/">keylogger has to transmit its information to a third party in order for it to do any harm. This means sending information out of your computer via the Internet. Although a very close examination of your network usage might reveal a keylogger, you can’t count on that as a means of monitoring for them. The bandwidth taken up by recorded keystrokes is virtually undetectable in a broadband world.

    A href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/free-firewalls-windows/">firewall is a great defense against keyloggers because it will monitor your computer’s activity more closely than you ever could. Upon detecting that a program is attempting to send data out, the firewall will ask for permission or display a warning. Some firewall software, such as ZoneAlarm, provides you with the option of shutting down all inbound and outbound data completely.

    The use of a firewall can’t guarantee protection, but it’s an important line of defense that should catch most threats.

    Install A Password Manager

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/keylogger21.png" alt="keylogger tips" width="570" height="273" />

    Keyloggers work well because they’re simple. They just take raw information – keystrokes – and ship them out of your computer to a third party. The information they send doesn’t have to take up much bandwidth, and it can be logged quickly without any apparent performance impact on the target PC. Most users infected with a keylogger will never know it unless an account or credit card is hijacked.

    One weakness of keyloggers, however, is the fact that you can’t keylog what isn’t typed. That’s where automatic form filling becomes useful. If a password is filled in automatically by your PC, without any keystrokes, the password will only be susceptible to keyloggers the very first time you type it.

    All the major web browsers have this feature baked in and will ask to store your password information the first time you type it. Some computers ship with software that offers this functionality throughout the entire operating system. If you don’t have this software already installed, href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/password-manager-battle-royale-top/">check out our post on the best free password managers.

    Keep Your Software Updated

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/keylogger3.png" alt="what is a keylogger" width="531" height="194" />

    Being proactive about your computer’s security is always a good idea, and the most important part of a proactive defense is keeping software updated. Keyloggers, like most variants of modern malware, can exploit software vulnerabilities to inject themselves into your system without you, and in some cases your antivirus, being any the wiser. Adobe Flash, for example, has href="http://www.f-secure.com/vulnerabilities/SA200900917">had issues with remote code execution exploits in the past. A malicious website could use such an exploit to install a keylogger on your PC.

    Exploits are being found in software all of the time. Even Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X are routinely patched to take care of critical exploits. If you don’t update your system you will be leaving it open to all sorts of attacks that could otherwise have been avoided. Yes, making sure all of your software is up to date can be a pain, but consider the alternative. This is an easy, proactive remedy that will stop most attacks before they can start.

    Change Your Passwords Frequently

    For most users, the measures above will provide enough protection to ward off any keylogger woes, but there always seems to be people who have their passwords stolen even though they did everything right.

    This probably is the fault of exploits that have yet to be identified or patched, and it can also sometimes occur because of social engineering – it’s not unheard of for a Twitter account to be hacked and begin tweeting out links to malicious sites and files. Every smart geek is vigilant, but nobody is perfect.

    Changing your passwords frequently will help minimize the potential damage of a keylogging attack. Your password may be stolen, but it would be uncommon for it to be stolen and used immediately, unless that keylogger was targeted directly at you (in which case you may have bigger problems than keylogging!). If you change your password every two weeks, your stolen information will no longer be useful.

    Conclusion

    These methods will help protect against keyloggers by decreasing their opportunity to infect your PC and decreasing the information they can steal if one does happen to be installed. Although you can never protect yourself 100%, taking these steps will decrease your risk.

    How To Protect Yourself When Doing the Chatroulette Shuffle

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Chatroulette09.png" alt="chatroulette shuffle" /> title="Chatroulette" href="http://www.chatroulette.com/">Chatroulette is a website where you can anonymously meet people of virtually any age from around the world to chat with. You can communicate using text-based chat, voice, and most importantly your webcam. All you need to do is visit the website, click Scan and the system will match you with a random chat partner.

    Chatroulette is super minimalistic. No sign up, no age verification, no user information collected, nothing. The simplicity is great because it’s straightforward, quick, and easy. On the other hand, the randomness and anonymity increases the potential of running into a weirdo. The site is NSFW and definitely 18+. This article will show you how you can protect yourself from strange encounters while you do the Chatroulette shuffle with multiple chat partners.

    id="more-67760">

    Know How It Works

    As mentioned above, Chatroulette is a simplified web-based chat service. The layout is reduced to the absolute basics. From top to bottom you will see: your chat partner’s webcam broadcast, your own webcam image, Chatroulette controls, and the text-based chat box. In the bottom left you can change the theme.

    Before you start, familiarize yourself with the controls. The buttons with which you can control Chatroulette sit on top of the chat box. Depending on your current status, the left button is either Scan, Next, or Again and the right button reads Stop. To start you click Scan, to jump to the next random chat partner click Next, Stop is obvious, and to proceed after stopping simply click Again.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Chatroulette03.png" border="0" alt="chatroulette shuffle" />

    As you can see in the screenshot above, you can also control your camera and microphone input. These controls only appear when you hover your mouse over the area below your own webcam image. Be sure everything is connected the way you want it.

    Position Your Webcam

    An unwritten rule on Chatroulette is that you should broadcast your webcam image. Otherwise you will likely be pushed away by everyone you’re matched with. To protect yourself, however, you might want to keep the camera angle neutral. Instead of showing your full self, point the camera into the room, only show a part of yourself, or be creative and dress up in a costume. Once you start shuffling people, you will see what I mean with ‘creative’.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Chatroulette08.png" border="0" alt="chatroulette screenshots" />

    Also note that per default your microphone is set to broadcast sound. Use the volume controls shown above to adjust the sound. The control on the left side is for your microphone and the one on right controls what you hear of your chat partner.

    Don’t Be Offended

    Chatroulette is not a place for the faint of heart. You will see people of all ages, you will meet very few girls and a lot of men, but most of all you will see nudity and the occasional weirdo. Expect to be surprised and possibly offended and don’t approach Chatroulette if this is a problem! The best thing you can do to protect yourself from these encounters, apart from not using Chatroulette, is to keep the mouse pointer very close to the Next and Stop buttons.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Chatroulette04.png" border="0" alt="chatroulette review" />

    Don’t Take It Personally

    Most people are fun and nice and even if they seem weird, they actually don’t mean to offend you. Some folks, however, are extremely rude and take pleasure from shocking or hurting others. Never take it personally! After all they don’t know you and they are just as alone as you are. Hit Stop if you need a break or click Next to hopefully meet a nice person.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Chatroulette10.png" border="0" alt="chatroulette review" />

    Set Your Alarm

    Chatroulette is very addictive. Time literally flies by as you shuffle people, chat, laugh, and hit the Next button over and over again. If you just want to try it and don’t have hours to waste, set an alarm or watch the clock.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Chatroulette07.png" border="0" alt="chatroulette review" />

    Seriously, you can trust me regarding the advice to set an alarm, I speak from experience. This article could have been finished in a matter of minutes, but obviously the research and hunt for good screenshots took a very long time.

    Conclusion

    Chatroulette is an entertaining way to meet people from all walks of life, although it can also be shocking and intimidating. People use Chatroulette for all sorts of activities and their objectives don’t necessarily coincide with what you are looking for. Unfortunately, there is no way to be matched with people based on age, gender, location, or interests. Hence you have to be prepared to see and hear things you didn’t care for. However, if you approach Chatroulette with an open mind, it will be a great way to pass the time.

    src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Chatroulette05.png" border="0" alt="chatroulette shuffle" />

    5 Essential Digital Photography Accessories You Can Make Yourself

    style="border: 0px none;margin-left:20px;float:right;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/intro4.jpg" alt="digital photography accessories"/> href="http://www.makeuseof.com/pages/guide-to-digital-photography">Photography certainly isn’t the cheapest of hobbies to take up. If you’re serious about it then you’re going to need a good digital SLR, a selection of lenses and href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/10-cool-accessories-photographer/">a decent set of extras to keep you snap-happy.

    There’s a startling array of accessories out there for the amateur enthusiast, and though many are cheap there’s plenty that aren’t. Luckily, you’ll be pleased to hear that many of those costly bits of plastic and card are simply that – plastic and card, which can be built for a fraction of the cost.

    Those of you who don’t have the cash to flash and enjoy a little challenge will find some of the do-it-yourself projects in this list satisfying, especially when you’re saving money (probably to buy more lenses, if you’re anything like me).

    id="more-54530">

    href="http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html">The DIY Softbox

    If you’ve ever taken an interest in href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/started-macro-photography/">macro photography then pay attention. A softbox is essentially a light tent, designed to soften harsh light and shadows to provide a nice even exposure and near-perfect lighting.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/softbox.jpe" alt="digital photography accessories"/>

    Pretty much every “product shot” of href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/gdgt-electronic-gadgets-wikipedia/">any gadget you own will have been shot in one of these, and you can quite easily customise it to suit your own demands. A nice shiny floor tile from your local DIY store is all it takes to sex one these up!

    To make one you’re going to need an old cardboard box, some black and white card and a source of light. If you don’t have a flash unit, you can fire remotely (either wirelessly or with a hot-shoe cord) then you could use a desk lamp or even bright torch, just href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/tips-digital-photos-require-photoshop-fixes/">remember your white balance.

    href="http://www.xs4all.nl/~wiskerke/artikelen/string.html">The String Tripod

    The least-conventional tripod ever, this string tripod attaches to your camera’s usual tripod mount point so that a length of string is left hanging from your camera. Your foot is then used to hold the string tight in the position you would like to shoot, and adjusted accordingly.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/stringtripod.jpe" alt="digital photography accessories"/>

    The tripod works by using the tension in the string to keep the camera steady. It won’t keep your camera amazingly still but should work enough to facilitate shooting in lower light conditions. The tripod is designed purely to get href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/the-basics-of-aperture-and-shutter-speeds-for-beginning-photographers/">a couple of extra stops of light into your camera without the blur.

    To make it, you’ll need an existing tripod plate (plastic’s probably best, as you’ll need to drill a hole) and some sort of string or chain. There’s nothing to say you can’t modify this design, as long as it’ll fit in a tripod mount point then it’ll work. Retaining screws for US license plates apparently work well, if you’re that side of the pond.

    href="http://www.adidap.com/2007/12/20/diy-poors-man-ring-flash/">The Poor Man’s Ring Flash

    A proper ring flash can often end up costing more than what your camera is worth, so if you’re still new and not made of money then you might as well try and MacGyver yourself something instead. This guide will show you how to make a basic yet functional ring flash to bring out the best in your href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-photography-and-photoshop-tips-for-the-perfect-family-portrait/">portraiture.

    A ring flash is designed to light the subject from your lens’ point of view, minimising shadows in the wrong place and providing a vivid, well lit exposure. The DIY ring flash won’t perform as well as a professional bit of kit, but href="http://www.pbase.com/duncanc/image/84869713/large">the results aren’t bad.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ring2.jpg" alt="photography accessories" />

    Depending on the flash you are using (this should work with both the internal flash and any flash guns you might have) cut the milk carton to size, cut a hole big enough to slide your lens through and shoot away. If you’re reading this and you’ve got a point and shoot camera, don’t worry href="http://www.instructables.com/id/Point-and-Shoot-Ring-Flash-Diffuser/">you can join in too.

    href="http://www.diyphotography.net/the-party-bouncer-is-back-in-business">The Flash Bounce Card

    The simplest trick of all can transform your harsh sub-par built-in flash into a glorious bounce flash for a whopping $0. As long as you’ve got a piece of white card (a business card works well) and some elastic or rubber bands, you’re laughing.

    Position the card in front of the flash so no light can leak directly into your shot, so that when your flash fires the light is projected upwards and bounces back down into your scene. It’s no replacement for a full-on bounce flash, but you’ll be surprised at how well the shots will come out considering you never spent a penny.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/bouncecard.jpg" alt="photography accessories"/>

    This will also work to help diffuse or even tint harsh light coming from flashguns, much like the picture above.

    href="http://dslrblog.com/how-to-make-a-diy-flash-bounce-diffuser/">The Flash Gun Diffuser / href="http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Gary-Fong-Lightsphere/">Light Sphere

    This one works in a similar way to the bounce card, but is aimed at those who have already coughed up the money for a fancy flash gun. There’s no right or wrong way to do this, as there are so many different versions floating about online.

    style="text-align: center;"> class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/diysphere.jpe" alt="photography accessories"/>

    This particular design suggests using bubble wrap to create a hollow tunnel that sits on top of the flash unit, to diffuse light directly at the subject. I myself prefer the tried and tested href="http://www.digital-photography-school.com/diy-flash-diffuser-airline-barf-bags">sick bag and rubber band diffuser, as the airlines tend to keep me stocked up for free.

    You’ll be amazed at how well it works, especially considering an official Gary Fong Lightsphere (which is just plastic after all) can set you back about $50.

    Conclusion

    Hopefully this list will at least give you an idea of what you can achieve with effort as opposed to money. These DIY accessories are often intended to deliver a sample of what the real thing can do without laying down the cash. If you find that you’re especially fond of one of your creations, href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/tipjar-money-saving-tips/">then maybe it’s time to start saving for the real thing. If it’s good enough, why bother?

    The most important thing that you need to do when your pc gives you a Windows XP that can’t run exe files is to find out if the registry might be to blame. This segment of your system is responsible for all your pc software and hardware adding, upgrading, removing programs and devices, etc. It catalogues, to name one function, the location of the many executables that your pc contains. Windows XP Registry Repair – Do It Yourself

    My old Windows XP system is fine for me – and you may feel
    the same.  But there are times that I wish my older system
    ran as fast as it did like when it was new.  Now there is
    nothing technically wrong with Windows XP – registry repair
    software is what you need to get back to speedy computing.

    the registry, an important system database, gets corrupted
    with invalid and missing entries.  These corruptions cause
    your system to slow down and even crash unexpectedly.  You
    could lose data in this scenario – so you need to use a
    registry repair program on your Windows XP installation.

    If you have ever used a virus scanner program, you’ll see
    that the advanced registry cleaners work much the same way
    - first a scan, then the automatic repair.  It only takes a
    few minutes to have a faster, safer computer experience.

    This magic is performed in just a few minutes and is really
    impressive to see.  It’s amazing how many PC problems the
    higher-rated programs are able to recognize and fix
    automatically.  Once you have cured your registry issues,
    you’ll find your computer will run faster and more
    smoothly, like it did when it was new.

    Choose a program that has a high test rating and offers
    good customer service.  Windows XP registry repair software
    is a simple, affordable utility no computer user should
    ever be without.

    Driver Updates For Windows Xp ? Learn How To Do It Yourself

    Have you recently installed Windows XP but discovered that certain hardware devices are not functioning. Perhaps your computer does not recognize another device such as your printer or Bluetooth head set. You need to be sure that you have the right drivers on your computer. Drivers are software that allows your hardware to work with your central processing unit (CPU). You need to install updates for Windows XP in order to solve your problem.

    Driver Updates for Windows XP

    You may not always have access to a technician to help you with this, particularly if a problem occurs at night. Besides you may need to pay someone to install the software on your computer. It is best to avoid this by learning to install driver updates on your computer yourself.

    The best place to look for a driver update for Windows XP if Microsoft Update. First click on Custom Install and after that click on Select optional hardware updates in the left column. You can download the driver you need if you know its name and version number.

    In order to use the Windows Update Catalogue to find driver updates for Windows XP, go to the Microsoft Update home page. Once there, go to ‘Other Options’ and click ‘Administrator Options’. Next go to ‘Update multiple operating systems’ and click ‘windows update catalogue’. After that click on ‘find driver updates for hardware devices’ and then click on ‘pick a hardware category’. There you can search for the driver downloads that are needed to make your device work properly.

    If you can’t find the driver you need from the Microsoft Update site, it will also be available at the hardware manufacturer’s website. These drivers will obviously be the latest and the most up to date. Most drivers are easy to install become they come packaged with software that automatically installs it.

    Be aware that some drivers that you download from manufacturer’s websites may not be suitable because they have not passed Microsoft compatibility testing. These drivers could damage your machine.

    Once you learn how to download and install driver updates for Windows XP, your computer can work to the best of its potential. You will not need to contact any service technician who may not give you the correct advice at all. With this information, you can keep your computer and other hardware devices updated and in good working condition without spending any money.

    Teach yourself the procedure of Windows Vista Installation

    To install Windows Vista, following are certain procedures which will make your installation simpler:

    Step: 1 Installation Plan:

    While you are running your Windows Vista setup program, you have to provide all the informations about the process of installation and configuration of the operating system. During setting up of Windows Vista, it requires thorough planning. A detailed sketching process can lead to a problem free setup of the operating system. Understanding the configuration options enables the user to have a proper configuration of your system.

    Before going into the Windows Vista installation procedure, the user should check the following things in a system:

    The system requirements are checked The compatibilities with software and hardware are verified The disk partitioning options are determined A pre-installation checklist is prepared Take decisions on a workgroup or domain installation

    After ensuring the above mentioned steps you are free to install the operating system Windows Vista.

    Step: 2 Installation Beginning:

    Windows Vista installation takes place in several methods among which Windows Vista DVD media is the simplest form. Following are the techniques which will complete the process:

    Insert the DVD of Windows Vista in your DVD ROM and start your PC. As soon as Windows Vista will complete its process of booting immediately it will jump to its next process. In this screen you will be allowed to setup the input methods, keyboard, language, currency format and time. Now install or repair the operating system. Since the user is installing fresh software so the ‘install now’ will be selected. Enter the product key You can skip the step of entering serial key. The installation process will still be continued with the option of choosing the version of Windows Vista. Mark the box “I accept the license terms” and make your click on next. Select the type of installation. It gives you choice of upgrade or clean install. Windows Vista, depending on the users choice, continues with either of the two parts:

    a)      Upgrade:- For the Upgrade option from Windows XP or other versions,  Windows will first look on the compatibility of the hardware and software that you have previously installed. The report that will be generated will report the user on what will not work in the operating system. As soon as you click the option “Next”, Windows Vista will start its upgrade within a few minutes.

    b)      Clean:- Windows will guide you while carrying the process of installation. It will instantly prompt you about the multiple partitions. From there you have to select one. Now go to the “Next” option from where the operating system will carry on its procedure.

    Step: 3 GUI Portion:

    Unlike Windows XP or other versions of Windows, Windows Vista does not show any noticeable text phase of the setup process.

    Other than the above mentioned steps there are certain other things that should be taken care of:

    Internet Connection

    Before starting the upgradation process from Windows XP or other versions of Windows, ensure that your PC system has Internet connection.
