8 Solutions To Loop YouTube Videos & Watch Them Again

class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-logo.jpg?323f2c" alt="" />It might be a Photoshop tutorial on one hand and Rebecca Black on the other, but you shouldn’t be shy to admit that there have been times you have looped a YouTube video and watched it umpteen times. You might have clicked that ‘Replay’ button a dozen times? Or was it more?

That Replay button sure took a beating and all because YouTube does not provide a natural, human-friendly way to loop a streaming video. The above two needs aside, I do like to loop a few videos myself…mostly when I am trying to learn something or a hummable song. So, I usually sit back – pick one of the ways described below – and put the videos in a continuous loop till I switch them off.

You can too. Just try them all once and then pick the one you like.

href="http://endlessvideo.com/">Endless YouTube

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-loop01.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="274" />

Endless YouTube allows you to set a YouTube to loop a specific number of times. Plus, with this service you can also loop a part of a YouTube video rather than the entire one. The easiest way to use the site is to alter the YouTube URL in the address bar. For e.g. if you’re watching the The Dark Knight trailer at “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx2rhzcIVxo” you can watch it endlessly at “http://www.endlessyoutube.com/watch?v= bx2rhzcIVxo “.

You can also go directly to the site and paste the video ID code in the box provided. You can set the part which you want to loop with the two time boxes. (See href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/endlessyoutube-loop-youtube-video/">Directory mention)

href="http://www.infinitelooper.com/">Infinite Looper

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-loop02.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="460" />

You can use the handy bookmarklet or just copy-paste the YouTube video URL in the box provided. You can also use the blue slider to a point in the video to loop only that section. This web service is among the simplest to use.

href="http://playinurtubez.com/">PlayinUrTubez

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-loop03.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="327" />

PlayerTubez comes with a stylish interface. The site is ‘specialized’ for YouTube playlists. Of course, you can use it to play single videos too. You can enter a user’s name and get all his hosted videos as a playlist. The web app has quite a few controls like a feature to play the highest quality video first and to hide the unplayable videos from the playlist. All the remaining default features of YouTube are also available. You can search for videos from here and also connect to the video page on YouTube. (See href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/playinurtubez-play-youtube-videos-in-a-loop/">Directory mention)

href="http://www.tubereplay.com/">TubeReplay

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-loop04.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="240" />

Take a YouTube URL, paste it into the box and hit Replay. The video keeps on looping till you shut it off. You can also try the links to the two looping ideas given on the site which turn your monitor into a fireplace and an aquarium. (See href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/tubereplay-auto-replays-youtube/">Directory mention)

href="http://www.youtuberepeater.com/">YouTube Repeater

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-loop06.png?323f2c" alt="" width="573" height="592" />

The site looks a bit crowded, but you don’t have to visit the site to use its YouTube looping tool. You simply insert ‘repeater’ between ‘youtube’ and ‘.com’ then press Enter. Your video starts playing in a loop. You can also loop a portion of a video by fixing the start and end points. Launch the mini-player if you want the looping video to play in unobtrusively in the background.

Loop YouTube Videos with Chrome Extensions

href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lnkdbjbjpnpjeciipoaflmpcddinpjjp">SmartVideo for YouTube

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-loop08.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="295" />

The Chrome extension’s primary purpose is to improve YouTube play by controlling the way it is buffered. You can set your preferences so that the extension’s ‘smart buffer’ kicks in. One of the features included is that you can set videos to loop. This extension supports embedded HTML5 videos as well as YouTube videos.

href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gfllkgkeiciklnenppokkgkmbjnoeodn">YouTube Looper

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-loop09.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="217" />

This Chrome extension for YouTube adds a simple ‘Loop this’ button to on the YouTube toolbar. Click on the button to make the videos play continuously.

Loop YouTube Videos with Firefox Add-ons

href="https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-auto-replay-11636/">YouTube Auto Replay

class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/youtube-loop10.png?323f2c" alt="" width="580" height="179" />

Hit the Replay button to loop the entire video or specify the time to watch a section of it in a continuous loop. This Firefox add-on helps you to loop a YouTube video without a hassle.

Do this web services, extensions, and add-ons seem like overkill for what is a simple task? Well, you could always use your mouse to replay the video again and again. But ask anyone who likes to watch an instructional video or a specific part of it again and again, and he will disagree. So, tell us if you can make use of these tools to loop YouTube videos. Which is your favorite href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/youtube/">YouTube trick?

    YouTube Launches YouTube For Schools, Features Safe & Educational Content Only [News]

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/youtube-logo.jpg?323f2c" alt="" />Do you remember your excitement as a student when the teacher rolled in that huge TV on a cart and announced that you were going to watch a movie? Those were usually the best and most memorable classes. Google figured this out, and so have launched a special YouTube network, just for schools and universities.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/schools?feature=inp-bl-paq">YouTube for Schools is a special network which school administrators can turn on to grant access only to href="http://www.youtube.com/education">YouTube EDU content. YouTube EDU is a huge source of educational videos which is divided into videos for primary & secondary education, university and lifelong learning.

    But anyone can access YouTube EDU from anywhere, so what’s special about YouTube for School? Using the network, schools can use content from YouTube EDU in a way that doesn’t expose students to inappropriate content. There are no related videos, no comments, and only educational videos to go around. To make it easier for teachers to find the right videos, they have href="http://youtube.com/teachers?feature=inp-bl-paq">been divided into categories such as math, science and social studies, and are further divided into subjects and grade levels within these categories.

    src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NegRGfGYOwQ?hd=1" frameborder="0" width="580" height="325">

    In order to get started, head over to href="http://www.youtube.com/schools?feature=inp-bl-paq">YouTube for Schools and sign up using the school’s Google account. YouTube for Schools can actually be a useful solution for other organizations, who wish to allow only educational, appropriate content.

    Do you like the idea? Or do you think it’s bad for education? Share your opinions in the comments.

    The 4 Most Bizarre Music Videos Found On YouTube

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/rightalign1.png" alt="bizarre videos" />With the advent of href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/video">online video, it’s never been easier to record a song, make a music video of it, and then put it out on the Internet. However, some of the stuff that makes it out there is just different.

    Fortunately, I’ve found four videos for you to check out that are unique, well-crafted (well, most of them are), and very interesting to watch. So make sure your title="How To Meter & Manage Computer Bandwidth Usage" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/meter-manage-computer-bandwidth-usage/">bandwidth is clear, because here are four of the most bizarre music videos found on href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/youtube">YouTube.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hcVleGxx40">Basil Marceaux – “Come Christmas”

    src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/5hcVleGxx40" frameborder="0" width="580" height="325">

    I just really want to go ahead and get this out of the way. The chorus of this title="5 Last Minute Christmas Gift Ideas In Case You Get Stuck" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-minute-christmas-gift-ideas/">Christmas tune, which states “Christmas turns me on,” over and over, is not sexual in in any form or fashion. To be honest, I don’t think the original creators would have intended any innuendo, but it is still awkward all the same.

    Perhaps you may remember href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hvaeHllwtw">Basil Marceaux (dot com), the infamous candidate for governor of Tennessee (my home state) that had a rather interesting spot on a local news station about an half-an-hour from where I live. Well, it turns out that Mr. Marceaux decided he would make a home-grown Christmas video last year, and I’m sharing it with you just in time for the holidays.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMrN3Rh55uM">The Guild – “Game On”

    src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xMrN3Rh55uM" frameborder="0" width="580" height="325">

    Felicia Day is definitely one of my favorite actresses (she’s just real), and she has a web series called “The Guild” that you might have heard of. The show is centered around her group of gamers for an online title="3 Ways To Prepare For The New Star Wars MMO [Gaming]" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-ways-prepare-star-wars-mmo-gaming/">MMORPG – pretty cool idea.

    The Guild will occasionally make music videos, and this one may very well be my favorite. Done completely in a Bollywood style, this video brings out the joy of gaming with an Indian flair. It’s not bizarre because it’s bad, but it’s bizarre because of its concept.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLAEg5aTXAE">Rhett and Link – “The Perfect Bathroom Trip”

    src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sLAEg5aTXAE" frameborder="0" width="580" height="325">

    Rhett and Link are probably the finest Internetainers out there, and they actually have quite a few music videos already out there. There are their epic rap battles, and then their song about pillows. However, this one takes the cake for being the most bizarre.

    Bent entirely on describing the perfect bathroom trip, Rhett and Link serenade fellow YouTube star Julian Smith as he takes care of his business and during the events that follow after. Seriously, it’s terribly awkward. Oh, and iJustine makes an appearance in the water closet.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1P38oxSuA8">J. Kap – “I Owe?”

    src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/C1P38oxSuA8" frameborder="0" width="580" height="325">

    J. Kap, who’s “just an artist living in the basement of his parent’s home” seems like an interesting guy, and I can relate to his worries of finances – it’s hard to choose between doing what you love and diving into something that is considered stable. Both are great choices, but they each have their pros and cons.

    However, I don’t think I’d actually make a music video about my money situation. One, it costs a lot to make a music video, and that could be used elsewhere. Two, I guess I just like dealing with my title="Get Paid For Your Opinions By Completing Online Surveys For Paid Viewpoint" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/paid-opinions-completing-online-surveys-paid-viewpoint/">financial issues myself. However, J. Kap did, and you can watch it right now.

    Conclusion

    I love music videos, but there are a lot of crazy ones out there, and these are exclusive to the Internet. They are all fairly well done (save for Basil), but they are just bizarre!

    What other bizarre music videos on the Internet do you know about? What do you think of the ones shown here?

    5 YouTube Vlogs To Put On Your Web Video Watching List

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/rightalign.png" alt="youtube vlogs" />I know that in the mid-to-late 2000′s, title="How To Make Unforgettable YouTube Videos" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-make-unforgettable-youtube-videos/">vlogs ruled the Internet with the purest form of free speech in the world. However, even though we’re in a totally different decade, I’m pretty confident that vlogging will flourish, evolve, and improve over the next few years. Granted, it’s typically just someone talking in href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/video">front of a camera, and I’m not sure how you can build on that. Maybe holograms. The answer is always holograms.

    I’ve compiled a go-to list of vloggers that you should be watching right now. So load up href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/youtube">YouTube, because we’re about to put a few more channels on your playlist.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers">VlogBrothers

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/VlogBrothers.png" alt="youtube vlogs" width="580" height="145" />

    This may actually be my personal favorite vlog series, and it may be because of the family aspect of it all. Starting with their Brotherhood 2.0 project in which they decided to stop all title="Facebook Competitor Diaspora Goes Live [News]" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/facebook-competitor-diaspora-live-news/">text-based communication (emails, texting, all that jazz) and post conversational videos for each other every weekday for one year. With that being said, I have a brother that I only get to see about three times a week these days, and it’s a heart-breaker.

    Granted, Brotherhood 2.0 ended a while back. However, they now seek to educate the world with their vlogs in collaboration with the website href="http://nerdfighters.ning.com/">Nerdfighters, but you should still check them out. As a note, John writes books, and Hank plays music.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/shaycarl">Shay Butler

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/ShayCarl.png" alt="vlogs on youtube" width="580" height="185" />

    I love Shay, and it’s not all because of his over-the-top energy, his crazy sense of humor, or his beard. To be honest, it’s his family. This guy incorporates his family in nearly every single video that he has going on, and I love it.

    Granted, Shay does quite a few comedy bits in addition to his vlogging, and after a history of about 20 jobs, it seems like this is without a doubt his true calling. Be sure to check out his other channels too, for he has even more humor coming from his day-to-day life.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/user/nigahiga">Nigahiga

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Nigahiga.png" alt="vlogs on youtube" width="580" height="155" />

    Ryan Higa – the second most subscribed YouTuber of all time – started out making videos of himself lip-syncing with his friends to title="5 Resources Used To Find Free MP3 Albums For Sound Sunday" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-resources-find-free-mp3-albums-sound-sunday/">popular songs. Granted, things got big for him over time, and he now has two incredibly successful YouTube channels full of self-composed music, comedy, and vlogging bits that are definitely worth watching.

    As a note, some of Nigahiga’s original videos had to be taken down due to copyright issues during his earlier work on YouTube. With that being said, this is why his new musical videos incorporate self-produced tunes.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/user/rhettandlink">Rhett and Link

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/RhettandLink.png" alt="vlogs on youtube" width="580" height="155" />

    Although Rhett and Link are primarily “Internetainers”, I can include them on here because yes – they vlog. However, I believe the best videos they produce are their entertaining skits that are honestly made in good, clean fun. For the record, I didn’t say they wouldn’t be awkward or make you blush.

    Just as a reminder, Rhett and Link are most recently famous for their local commercials that they have produced for small businesses nationwide (and they are also partially responsible for you knowing who Chuck Testa is). However, where they really shine is their music, so jump in there and give it a listen.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/raywilliamjohnson">Ray William Johnson

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/RayWilliamJohnson.png" alt="youtube vlogs" width="580" height="155" />

    I wasn’t going to originally add Ray William Johnson to this list, but I figured I might as well since the lot of you would leave me comments such as, “Why is Ray William Johnson not on here?!” Basically, RWJ (the most subscribed YouTuber of all time) takes an approach to YouTube that is quite similar to the old show of America’s Funniest Videos and even more comparatively, Tosh.0.

    Despite his vlogging nature that involves reviewing viral videos, you’ll find RWJ on various comic bits besides just video commentary. As a matter of fact, YouTube action star Freddie Wong actually put together a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJACFMc-Rb4">video with him not too long ago all about massacring title="5 Most Effective Ways To Deal With Arrogant Internet Trolls" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-effective-ways-deal-arrogant-internet-trolls/">trolls.

    Conclusion

    For all you title="3 Types Of Reddit Commenters That Drive Me Nuts" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-types-reddit-commenters-drive-nuts/">commenters, I’m quite aware that these aren’t all the vloggers that could very well be on this list. There are quite a few out there, and each of them are talented in their own right. As a matter of fact, I wish that I could join them, but I’m not quite there, yet.

    With that being said, what are some of your other favorite vloggers out there? What are you thoughts on the ones mentioned here?

    YouTube Movie Page Receives New Look [News]

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/YouTubeSquareLogo.png" alt="" />Just recently YouTube put out a href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/youtube-improve-user-experience-news/">nice update that made some changes to the end of the video screen and the playlist feature, and now they are at it again, bringing an update to their movie page. Everything looks a lot cleaner now on the new page, and it is certainly easier to navigate. I would say the layout looks somewhat similar to Netflix, which is a good thing, because Netflix has the layout for streaming videos down to a science. It still retains the YouTube style, just in a neater and easier to use way.

    A major part of this update stems from YouTube trying to bring more of their Indian movies to the forefront. They currently have over 1,500 Indian movies on there, and this update was designed to make it easier to get access to those movies. If you are in India, href="http://youtube.com/movies">YouTube.com/movies will automatically show you their Indian movies, and if you are outside India and want to get access to them you can go href="http://www.youtube.com/movies/indian-cinema">here and href="http://www.youtube.com/movies/bollywood">here.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/india.png" alt="" width="480" height="294" />

    What do you think of the new YouTube page? Let us know in the comments!

    YouTube Makes Some Changes To Improve User Experience [News]

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/YouTubeSquareLogo.png" alt="" />The worlds most popular way to share and watch videos has received a small update that brings a few improvements. href="http://www.youtube.com/">YouTube has quietly rolled out these new features, and while they won’t necessarily revolutionize the way you watch and create videos on href="http://www.youtube.com/">YouTube, they are some very nice changes that keep them ahead of the pack in terms of creating and watching videos on the web.

    The first change this new update brings is with the screen that comes up when you finish watching a video. The new end of video screen is more like a mosaic, making it easier to find exactly what you want to watch next. It’s a small change, but it is one that makes finding more content similar to what you just watched a little easier, plus it looks a lot nicer than the old one.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/end_of_video-e1319226004459.png" alt="" width="580" height="352" />

    The next change comes in the playlist bar. The video images are larger now, making it easier to see what the video looks like, and decide if it is something that is worth your time. They also improve the placement of the next and previous buttons for easier navigation between videos.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/playlist.png" alt="" width="455" height="44" />

    href="http://www.youtube.com/">YouTube also improved their charts feature. Charts is the feature that allows you to see what videos are the most popular, and they streamlined it to make it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/charts1-e1319226088870.png" alt="" width="580" height="539" />

    They also added localization for more countries such as Kenya, Singapore and the Philippines, bringing their total to 35 countries.

    The last change is a partnership with cloud-based video editing service WeVideo for creators.

    2 Tools To Load The Lyrics Next To Music Clips On YouTube [Chrome]

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/youtube-lyrics.jpg" alt="youtube tool lyrics" />Do you love watching music clips on YouTube? It has become real fun lately when more and more pop stars and groups have been creating official YouTube channels where you can find their latest music clips. But the fun doesn’t stop there. If you love listening to music, the chances are you love singing as well. While you can find millions of music clips on YouTube that you can watch, very often it’s hard to make out the exact lyrics.

    That’s where the browser extensions we review today come in really handy. They allow you to listen to songs on YouTube together with href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/tag/lyrics/">lyrics.

    Lyrics for Google Chrome™

    href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/oglbipcbkmlknhfhabolnniekmlhfoek">Lyrics for Google Chrome™ is a fun Google Chrome extension that loads lyrics for the current song on request. Lyrics are automatically fetched from href="http://lyrics.wikia.com/">LyricsWiki™.

    When you open a music clip on YouTube, notice the extension icon that appears in the Address Bar (omnibox). Click it to load the lyrics right next to the video and start singing!

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/youtube-lyrics-01.jpg" alt="youtube tool lyrics" width="550" height="388" />

    If nothing was found in the database, you can do a manual search.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/youtube-lyrics-02.jpg" alt="youtube lyrics" width="339" height="127" />

    The options page lets you choose whether you want to load lyrics next to the YouTube video or open it in a new tab.

    The extension also supports: Last.fm™, Google Music™ and Grooveshark™

    Besides, the extension adds lyrics quick search that lets you search for lyrics from the omnibar by typing “lyrics …” + a title, artist or a couple words from the lyrics.

    Another great thing is that the extension is actively supported as the developer answers all the comments on the extension page and seems to quickly implement all the suggestions (full support is provided href="https://github.com/haampie/Lyrics-for-Chrome">here).

    Obviously, it won’t fetch lyrics for any song under the sun, so it won’t always work. Besides, LyricsWikia isn’t licensed to display the full lyrics for some popular songs. However it ran pretty smoothly and found lyrics for most music clips I came across.

    Here’s another similar extension that seems to be a little bit more simplistic: href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/kggldhblikkmmnbkeococbeoaacgelkf?hl=en-US&hc=search&hcp=main">Lyrics for YouTube™

    Music Video Lyrics for YouTube

    href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hbegdicajmjmehcembhmpijdfdofobbh">Music Video Lyrics for YouTube is another similar extension that seems to have a bit smaller database of lyrics.

    It installs an icon in the toolbar that signals when a YouTube page has some lyrics in the database (thus it saves you a few extra clicks as you only click the icon when it claims to have the associated lyrics).

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/youtube-lyrics-03.jpg" alt="youtube lyrics" width="300" height="128" />

    It will also change the icon and load the lyrics even if you have opened the YouTube page in the background tab.

    Clicking the icon will fetch the lyrics on the foreground of the page:

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/youtube-lyrics-04.jpg" alt="youtube tool lyrics" width="550" height="566" />

    Unlike the first extension on our list, this one promotes itself more actively offering you to rate and share it each time it loads the lyrics.

    Are there any other fun extensions for Google Chrome to offer that almost Karaoke experience? Please share them in the comments!

    3 Of The Creepiest Video Series On YouTube

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/icon4.png" alt="creepy video series" />The Internet is full of some pretty href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-10-disgusting-websites-to-share-with-friends/">disturbing things, right? For some reason, we like to look at all sorts of stuff that will keep href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-5-spooky-websites-awake-night/"> us up at night, spooked beyond all belief. It’s kind of sick when you think about it, but that’s also the reason that eighties horror films did so well.

    Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately), I’ve put together some of the creepiest video series that I’ve found on href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/youtube/">YouTube that will satisfy your self-inflicted desires of terror. Also, to the naysayers that don’t find these creepy at all, I’m going to hold you to your opinion when you’re alone in your room tonight – in the dark.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/show?p=8egJhsKOpsY&tracker=show_av">Salad Fingers

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/salad.png" alt="creepy video series" width="580" height="275" />

    Of course I had to add href="http://www.youtube.com/show?p=8egJhsKOpsY&tracker=show_av">Salad Fingers to this article because he’s kind of an Internet staple of creepy. However, when I first saw this guy, I didn’t think very much of him (or it?). By all appearances, he was simply an animated freaky green dude with a passion for the texture of rusty spoons. Nothing big, right? Wrong.

    The nine episode href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/flash/">Flash animation series is merely an open look at Salad Fingers’ daily life. With that in mind, you really have to know one thing about Salad Fingers – this dude is messed up. He wanders around an apocalyptic wasteland searching for rusty objects, hangs out with his finger-puppet friends, and even takes pleasure in self-mutilation (he just loves when the “red water” comes out).

    Sometimes we see just an average Salad Fingers adventure, but other times we dive into his imaginative fantasies that sometimes include life-size versions of his puppet pals.  However, despite the fact that he once cooked a child in an oven in the second episode, he seems to have good intentions with whatever he does… I think.

    href="http://www.youtube.com/shayesaintjohn">Shaye Saint John

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/shaye.png" alt="creepy videos on youtube" width="580" height="285" />

    When I initially saw href="http://www.youtube.com/shayesaintjohn">Shaye Saint John, my initial reaction was, “No. Just no.” These videos are quite possibly the strangest things that I’ve ever seen in my life, and it’s not so much the storyline of the videos (there really isn’t one), it’s how they are done. The href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/videos">editing uses a lot of repeated imagery, phrases, and camera shots to create a nearly subliminal video series that leaves you questioning, “What the heck did I just watch?”

    The storyline for Shaye seems to be that she was an absolutely beautiful woman that faced a near-death, disastrous car accident. Said accident resulted in the total destruction of her face and the loss of each of her limbs, and now we have that incredibly odd character that we see today.

    As you can tell by the videos, she now wears a mask that seems to be part of the head of a mannequin, and her “prosthetic limbs” are likely from that same mannequin. Some folks may say that the now-ended video series is a look at what beauty truly is, but I say just that we should all accept it as the freakiest thing on the Internet (by the way, watch Hand Thing. You won’t sleep tonight).

    href="http://www.youtube.com/blackboxtv">BlackBox TV

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/bb.png" alt="creepy video series" width="580" height="275" />

    Introduced to me by my former roommate Kishan, href="http://www.youtube.com/blackboxtv">BlackBox TV is the YouTube solution for a modern form of Rod Serling’s “The Twilight Zone”. The videos in this series are not necessarily always creepy, but when I made the comparison to the Twilight Zone, I meant every word of it. Each video takes a look at instances where you might think “what if?” Even each introduction of the videos is reminiscent of Serling’s masterpiece.

    The series dives into a darker realm, one that is outside of conventional thinking. The video series ranges from stories of a boy trapped within his mind – nearing death by drowning – all the way to a soldier who had to leave his his wife at home not for another country, but for Mars. The videos are definitely worth watching, and yes, some of them may just creep you out.

    Conclusion

    And so, my dear readers, you will now be able to leave here with three more creepy video series under your belt. Despite the fact that one of them may be a little more popular than the other two, it’s always good to remember the things on the Internet that scare us the most.

    What other video series creep you out? Do you have any memories of the series shown right here? What are your favorite creepiest things on the Internet?

    3 Different Ways To Control The YouTube Video Volume

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/volume-youtube.jpg" alt="youtube volume control"/>Last week we shared a few ways to quickly href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/mute-sound-webpages-embedded-audio-flash/">mute sound (or prevent flash from auto-playing) in different browsers.

    This week we follow up with a few more interesting tips on getting more control over YouTube video volume (Google Chrome, FireFox and Internet Explorer)

    Here are a few ways to easily make a YouTube video play louder or quieter:

    Keyboard Shortcuts (Default)

    YouTube videos support standard and obvious href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/comprehensive-guide-youtube-player-keyboard-shortcuts/">keyboard shortcuts: use UP / DOWN arrows to make the video play 5% loader or quieter.

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/volume-youtube-04.jpg" alt="youtube volume control" width="253" height="107" />

    Note: You may have to click on the video to move the focus to it and make the shortcut work (otherwise the shortcuts will just move the whole page up or down), so you will still need an extra click.

    Control Volume Scrolling Mouse Wheel (Google Chrome)

    href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/abjcfabbhafbcdfjoecdgepllmpfceif#">Magic Actions for Youtube is a fun Google Chrome extension that adds a few nice features to YouTube player including volume control using your mouse.

    When on any YouTube video page, scroll your mouse wheel to make the video play louder or quieter. And you don’t even need to move focus to the video itself (like with the shortcut)!

    The extension supports any web page with an embedded YouTube video as well as any page with a HTML5 video player.

    The sound level is visualized via a pretty standalone indicator.

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/volume-youtube-01.jpg" alt="volume control on youtube" width="498" height="380" />

    More features to enjoy:

    • Set the videos to play in HD by default;
    • href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-browser-extensions-dim-lights-move-focus-youtube-video/">Dim lights for the background page to enjoy the cinema mode (use the mouse wheel to change opacity of the background).
    • Auto play any video once you land on a page;
    • Disable video annotations.

    The extension options let you enable or disable any of the above features as well as set the volume control look and feel:

    • Change the color of the volume controller line;
    • Set the text volume indicator (instead of color line):

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/volume-youtube-05.jpg" alt="volume control on youtube" width="502" height="340" />

    Other supported online video streaming services: Vimeo.com

    3. Control Volume from the Status / Addons Bar (FireFox, IE)

    href="http://www.foxytunes.com/">FoxyTunes is a handy FireFox and Internet Explorer addon that adds video controls to the browser status bar (or “ href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/optimize-firefox-addons-bar-claim-space/">Addons bar” for FireFox 4+ users).

    It is initially meant to help you control your desktop video or music player using your browser but it supports web video players (like YouTube) as well:

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/volume-youtube-02.jpg" alt="volume control on youtube" width="316" height="129" />

    Apart from letting you control the volume and even mute it from your browser, you can also see the video information, pause the video, etc:

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/volume-youtube-03.jpg" alt="youtube volume control" width="371" height="162" />

    Besides, you can quickly hide it using the > sign on the Addons Bar.

    Other supported online video streaming services: Blip.tv, Deezer, Last.fm, Songbird, href="http://www.foxytunes.com/firefox/supportedPlayers.html">more.

    The 7 Leading YouTube Channels For All Things Apple

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/iphone_youtube_1.jpg" alt="" />Hardly a month goes by that Apple doesn’t release or update a new product or piece of software. Trying to keep up with all the best iOS apps and Apple-related accessories can be a little daunting for even the most devoted Apple fan. In addition to the hundreds of class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/tag/mac/">articles and several class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/pages/">PDF guides published here on MakeUseOf, there are also several popular YouTube channels that focus on Apple related hardware, software, and accessories.

    Each of these channels has 10,000 or more subscribers, and they each contain well put together productions, useful for both new and experienced Mac users. I’ve selected seven popular channels, but I’m sure I’ve overlooked a few. So if you are a more experienced YouTube viewer, feel free to chime with your recommendations.

    class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/user/Apple#p/u">Official Apple YouTube Channel

    It didn’t dawn on me until I started researching this topic that Apple has its own official YouTube channel. Not surprisingly it has almost 180,000 subscribers, with over six million channel views.

    width="580" height="430" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/v_gQHtXsLtU?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0&hd=1" /> name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> width="580" height="430" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/v_gQHtXsLtU?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0&hd=1" allowFullScreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" />

    The channel content consists of Apple’s television commercials, keynote addresses, and online promotional videos. It doesn’t invite comments, nor does it subscribe to other YouTube channels. But it does provide the official showings of its major hardware and software products.

    class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/user/SoldierKnowsBest">SoldierKnowsBest

    The vlogger who goes by the name of Mark (a.k.a Soldier Knows Best) appears to be the leading YouTube channel for reviews of Apple products. At the time of this writing, his channel has upwards of 242,205 subscribers, and similar to Apple’s channel, has nearly six million channel views.

    width="580" height="430" classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/n6oXZSQeGbk?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0&hd=1" /> name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> width="580" height="430" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/n6oXZSQeGbk?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0&hd=1" allowFullScreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" />

    Some of his latest videos are about his class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT9N52JINJM">favorite iPhone and iPad apps, class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6oXZSQeGbk">OS X Lion Tips and Tricks, his views about the latest class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u_tUDLMeR4">MacBook Airs, a class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YClPHeM27g4">Mac Mini giveaway, and Apple’s class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEDYXBnioOM">new Cinema displays. His channel content also features reviews of third-party Apple related products and gadgets.

    The Man With No Life – A Simple & Free Way To Download YouTube Videos

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/image86.png?54167" alt="" />I have been professionally blogging about software for over two years now, and The Man With No Life is hands-down the best name for an app I’ve covered so far. It has absolutely nothing to do with what the application does, and couldn’t be farther than traditional SEO wisdom. In a nutshell, it’s a free YouTube downloader for Windows.

    When you open the app, you’re greeted with a huge, intrusive banner and Facebook friends area:

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/image87.png?54167" border="0" alt="image" width="580" height="501" />

    Fortunately, that can quickly be fixed simply by resizing the window (thanks for not disabling the option to resize the window, Man With No Life). After resizing the window, the interface looks much saner:

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/image88.png?54167" border="0" alt="image" width="580" height="346" />

    That’s more like it. There isn’t even a scroll bar. Next, let’s switch over to the Search window. This is no more than an embedded browser with Google as its default search (yes, Google rather than YouTube, for some reason). You can also paste in the full URL for any video you wish to download:

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/image89.png?54167" border="0" alt="image" width="580" height="376" />

    As soon as you see the title (“Did you hear a click?” in this case) in the top-left text box, you can click Download. You are then taken to the Transfers tab, where you can watch the video download:

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/image90.png?54167" border="0" alt="image" width="580" height="109" />

    … or fail miserably, if the title happens to have a question mark or other strange characters. In that case, just drop the special characters and hope for the best. It worked for the video above, as you can see. Once the download is complete, you can switch over to the My Library tab so see your video. Sadly, the context menu is not very informative, and the file path is not listed.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/image91.png?54167" border="0" alt="image" width="419" height="224" />

    To see where your files actually get saved, you’ll need to switch over to the Settings tab.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/image92.png?54167" border="0" alt="image" width="580" height="393" />

    Here you can see the default path for the files, as well as the quality setting. This is a bit of a simplification, as YouTube offers MP4-compressed files in multiple resolutions, so saying MP4 is “Highest quality” is not completely accurate.

    Alternatives

    Is the Man With No Life the best way to download YouTube videos? Definitely not. To be honest, the main thing it’s got going for it is the name. The interface is simple, which is good, but novice users may have trouble figuring out where their download went. There are several other services you can use if you want to download videos off YouTube. My personal favorite is class="vt-p" href="http://jdownloader.org/">JDownloader, which is a Java-based solution so it’s quite heavy (but can do lots more other than download YouTube videos).

    If JDownloader is a bit too heavy for you, you might be interested in an online alternative such as class="vt-p" href="http://keep-tube.com/">Keep Tube. It couldn’t be simpler to use: All you need to do is edit the URL for the video in your browser put the word keep right before youtube. So to download a video with a URL like class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRBcP6MmE8g">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRBcP6MmE8g you would just need to change it to class="vt-p" href="http://www.keepyoutube.com/watch?v=cRBcP6MmE8g">http://www.keepyoutube.com/watch?v=cRBcP6MmE8g . Keep Tube also uses Java, but as a browser plug-in, and is very lean and fast. It doesn’t have a crazy name like The Man With No Life, but it’s very usable.

    What’s your preferred way to download videos off YouTube? Let us know in the comments.

    Be A Comment Snob & Filter Out Undesirable YouTube & Web Comments

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/censor.jpg?54167"/>Space is silent, the digital one is not. Text and sound occupy much of it and users give vent to their feelings with both. Sharp-tongues and foul-mouths are the staple of comment boxes. This is one of those little tips that can make the online world a much civil, if not a better place.

    For instance, the popularity of YouTube has meant that it is a much frequented digital hotspot. One of the ills is the poor quality of comments.

    That’s when it time to turn to browsing tools that are there to counter the bad and ugly of the web. Let’s take a look at two extensions for Firefox and Chrome which help you to filter out undesirable and abuse laden comments on YouTube specifically and other sites on the web.

    For Firefox: href="https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-comment-snob/">YouTube Comment Snob

    This Firefox extension is absolutely free, but the if you feel that it does its job of filtering out offensive YouTube comments, then you can drop the little donation the coder asks for it. Freeware or ‘ href="http://www.chrisfinke.com/addons/youtube-comment-snob/">donationware’, this handy add-on is worth an install if your child browses YouTube more often than you would like.

    After installing the add-on, go to your add-ons list under Tools and check out the Options:

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/comment-snob01.png?54167" alt="" width="362" height="332" />

    If you have no interest in YouTube comments at all and would like to keep a clean interface, check the topmost box which hides all YouTube comments. The remaining settings of this Firefox extension filters comments, hiding those that contain too many spelling errors, undue punctuation, or swear words. Though Firefox does a good job of hiding all comments, it doesn’t do so for the other selective filters.

    Here’s a screen of a YouTube comment thread before the extension goes to war on it.

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/comment-snob02.png?54167" alt="" width="580" height="497" />

    Here’s one after the filters are applied and the interface gets cleaned up.

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/comment-snob03.png?54167" alt="" width="580" height="386" />

    The Chrome extension though does a far more thorough job. Let’s check it out.

    For Chrome: href="https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/gfbnmebccmipejnnlcaenkhfhniaielg">Comment Snob

    Nearly four years after he coded the Firefox add-on, the href="http://www.chrisfinke.com/">developer released a similar extension for Chrome. Along with the slight rechristening of the name, the other change is that it filters out undesirable comments from comment threads all over the Web (with a bit of work). The filter for YouTube is very much still in place alongside the extended functionality. As the Option screen below shows, Comment Snob also lets you filter out custom keywords or phrases.

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/comment-snob04c.png?54167" alt="" width="580" height="308" />

    Here’s how the YouTube page gets cleaned up:

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/comment-snob05.png?54167" alt="" width="580" height="445" />

    Comment Snob also introduces Rule Management. I won’t go into much detail with this except to say that this feature allows you to set filtration rules for any website. It gets a bit geeky (a tutorial is provided) and you need to know a bit of HTML and jQuery to frame the rules for any website. Rules can be customized for individual sites. You can try out few of the sample rules that are provided on the href="http://www.chrisfinke.com/comment-snob/">homepage for sites like Mashable, Yahoo News, Hacker News, and Reddit etc.

    How useful do you find the Firefox add-on and Chrome extension? Is a bit of censorship desirable when it comes to profanity laden comments? Let us know in a polite way.

    How To Force Subtitles In An Embedded YouTube Video

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/youtube-captions.jpg?54167"/>It’s been about three years since YouTube href="http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/11/automatic-captions-in-youtube.html">introduced improved automatic captions for some of the videos; in a year they became more common and last year they were href="http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/youtube_turns_on_auto-captions_for_all_vidoes.php">enabled for all English-language videos.

    YouTube captioning is the way to help hearing impaired people to understand the videos and, coupled with automatic translation, it can also help non-English people around the world to access the video content. The feature uses Google speech recognition technology to transcript any uploaded video.

    The captions are mostly decent-quality (especially in cases when the speaker in a video talks slowly and clearly). Even in cases when the machine fails to fully understand what is being spoken, you will still be able to understand the content of the video.

    By default, captions are disabled in an embedded video, however you may want to force the subtitles for one (or both) of the following reasons:

    • You want to make your video more accessible (especially to hearing-impaired people who are unaware of the option).
    • You are sharing an English video with non-English-speaking community.
    • Even if anyone can enable automatic subtitles manually, few people are actually aware of the option, so showing the captions by default would help a lot.

    1. Add Subtitles in an Embedded Video (by Default)

    Normally, if a user turned on captions once, YouTube will remember it and play subtitles by default until the user turns them off.

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/youtube-captions-02.jpg?54167" width="346" height="219" />

    What you can do is to change the default settings (show subtitles to users who don’t have the subtitles disabled or are logged out of Google / Youtube).

    To enable subtitles by default, you will need to use &cc_load_policy=1 parameter as shown below:

    Old-style code:

    <object width=”550″ height=”343″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/kTvHIDKLFqc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;&cc_load_policy=1“></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/kTvHIDKLFqc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&cc_load_policy=1” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”550″ height=”343″ allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true”></embed></object>

    Iframe (mobile-friendly) code:

    <iframe width=”550″ height=”343″ src=”http://www.youtube.com/embed/kTvHIDKLFqc?rel=0&cc_load_policy=1” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

    2. Translate Subtitles in an Embedded Code

    Despite the fact that this parameter is not “officially” described, YouTube has supported it for ages: “hl=” parameter in an embed code pre-selects the subtitle language. Most of these language code should work when used after the &hl= parameter: href="http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms533052%28v=vs.85%29.aspx">Language Codes

    This means that the following code should work to play the video automatically with translated subtitles:

    <object width=”550″ height=”343″> /> <param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/kTvHIDKLFqc?version=3&amp;fs=1&amp;hl=ru&amp;cc_load_policy=1&amp;rel=0&amp;hd=1″> /> <param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”> /> <param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always”> /> <embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/kTvHIDKLFqc?version=3&amp;fs=1&amp;hl=ru&amp;cc_load_policy=1&amp;rel=0&amp;hd=1″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”550″ height=”343″ allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true”></embed>

    However, due to reported  href="http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=1925b138a637c94e&hl=en">bugs, this code won’t work in many cases (maybe because of the numerous tweaks to the YouTube player). If you start experimenting with automatically translated captions, check out this href="http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=1925b138a637c94e&fid=1925b138a637c94e0004a02148fdb92c&hl=en">particular post offering a few workarounds to the bug (one possible workaround is to use version=3 parameter in an embedded code).

    Also, there is no way to translate captions in an iframe-based (newer) version of the embed player (sadly).

    3. Linking to Videos with Captions

    If you want to share a link to the video for viewers to see captions by default, you need to add this code at the end of the URL string:

    class="aligncenter" style="border: 0pt none;" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/youtube-captions-01.jpg?54167" width="380" height="28" />

    &yt:cc=on

    6 Free Full-Length Hollywood Films You Can Watch On YouTube Movies [US Only]

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/2011-07-10_004056.jpg?54167" alt="free full length movies" />I remember, just over a decade ago, I’d record all of the Backstreet Boys and ‘N SYNC’s MTV VMA performances on tape and watch them over and over. In just over 10 years now, no one uses VHS any longer, while class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/convert-video-files-to-dvd-mp4-vcd-mpeg-windows/">VCDs have pretty much gone and class="vt-p" href="http://techland.time.com/2011/05/04/dvd-sales-plunge-in-u-s-digital-sales-on-the-rise/">DVD sales have slowed down compared to digital rentals.

    A prime example of this big switch is in the success of the class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/two-very-useful-web-apps-to-get-the-most-out-of-netflix/">streaming/DVD rental class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/two-very-useful-web-apps-to-get-the-most-out-of-netflix/">giant class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/9-tips-tricks-netflix-subscription/">Netflix. It has gained a lot of traction (and outrage) recently, which indicates a shift in how we watch movies and shows from physical discs to streaming lots of media. It’s just hard to depart from the convenience of online movie and TV show streaming. Nowadays, there are class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/watch-movies-on-internet-youtube/">plenty of free, full length movies you can rent or you can catch on class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/movies">YouTube Movies, such as class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/movie/little-fockers">Little Fockers, class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/movie/the-kings-speech">The King’s Speech, etc. class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/10-neat-movies-youtube-cool-visual-special-effects/">Finding freebies on YouTube Movies isn’t hard, but finding good and recent ones may take a bit of time.

    Here’s a list of 6 free Hollywood full length movies which have received generally favorable reviews and are fairly recent (oldest movie from this list was released in 1992, while the newest movie is from 2006). If you have some free time this summer, read on for some free, enjoyable goodies!

    class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/movie?v=x5g0J6keqig&feature=mv_sr">Men In Black

    src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/2011-07-10_020353.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="free full length movies" width="580" height="658" />

    Starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, Men in Black is a 1997 science fiction comedy movie, based on the comic book series of the same name. It was a critically and commercially successful, gaining a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, an Academy Award for Best Makeup with nominations in other categories, and grossing nearly 5 times what it cost to make the movie. It has spanned two sequels, the last of which will be released next year.

    class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/movie?v=uR4Jpd_mSa4&feature=mv_sr">Gridiron Gang

    src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/2011-07-10_013436.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="full length movies" width="580" height="658" />

    This 2006 film follows the story of a former American football player, portrayed by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who helps the teenagers at the juvenile detention center where he supervises to gain self-esteem by engaging in sports, particularly, football. This movie is actually loosely based on the true story of the Kilpatrick Mustangs, a football team consisted of juvenile detainees at Camp Kilpatrick in California.

    class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/movie?v=VfWFcT2waKE&feature=mv_sr">Dracula

    src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/2011-07-10_005532.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="full length movies" width="580" height="651" />

    This 1992 adaptation of the novel stars Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Keanu Reeves and Anthony Hopkins. Oldman plays Count Dracula, who encounters a living image of his deceased wife in Winona Ryder’s character. The movie has gotten an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 3 Academy Awards for Best Makeup, Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Costume Design. It was also a box office hit.

    class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/movie?v=gx3z-8mbqxQ&feature=mv_sr">The Patriot

    src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/2011-07-10_032944.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="full length movies" width="580" height="657" />

    In this 2000 film, Mel Gibson gives life to a war veteran who has renounced violence but still has to participate in the American Revolutionary War against the British, while his elder son, played by Heath Ledger, gladly joins the Continental Army. The movie received generally positive reviews and was nominated for 3 Academy Awards, including Best Sound, Best Cinematography and Best Original Music Score.

    class="vt-p" href="http://www.youtube.com/movie?v=Wz2WPBfE_Os&feature=mv_sr">Bad Boys

    src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/2011-07-10_042930.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="watch full length movies" width="580" height="657" />

    Will Smith and Martin Lawrence star in this hilarious 1995 action film about two Mami cops that need to protect a murder witness and investigate a case of stolen drugs. The flick, which was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, became a box office hit, earning $140 million worldwide against a $10 million budget.

    Bonus: class="vt-p" href="http://www.crackle.com/c/Jerry_Maguire">Jerry Maguire

    This is technically not on Youtube Movies yet (as of 7/10/11), but considering it’s being shown on Crackle.com (which legally provides a lot of the full-length movies on this list on Youtube Movies), I’d say it’s bound to appear on Youtube soon.

    src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/2011-07-10_050744.jpg?54167" border="0" alt="free full length movies" width="576" height="498" />

    Jerry Maguire is a romantic comedy-drama film from 1996 where Tom Cruise plays a successful sports agent who tries to rebuild his once-honorable career when he’s dismissed from his job, with the support of wide receiver Rod Tidwell, portrayed by Cuba Gooding Jr. in an Oscar-winning performance, who happens to be Maguire’s most disgruntled client, and Renee Zellweger’s character, who is the only person from Maguire’s former job that believes in him.

    SongSprite – A SUPER Simple Way to Create & Share Audio Playlists From YouTube

    class="align-right" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/0_songsprite.jpg?54167" alt="" />In an article I wrote back in February entitled,  class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-websites-check-music-releases/">The 4 Best Websites To Check Out New Music Releases First, I pointed out that  class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/youtube/">YouTube is a great place to find new music. Simply put, there are lots of music videos on the site and no matter what you’re into I guarantee they’ve got it.

    But do you know what the problem is with YouTube as a music-listening platform? It wasn’t really built for that, and because it wasn’t, it lacks a few key things that a typical music platform would have, like the ability to save music playlists. Okay, so YouTube does technically have a playlist feature for music, but you still have to wait for the video to load in order to listen to your song, and sometimes that can be a pain. I’ve found a simpler way to do things, and it’s called SongSprite.

    What Is SongSprite?

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/5_songsprite.png?54167" alt="" width="476" height="394" />

    class="vt-p" href="http://www.songsprite.com/">SongSprite ( class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/songsprite-create-audio-playlists/">directory app) pulls the audio from YouTube videos and lets you make your favorite tracks into a playable playlist that you can share with others. You simply get the URLs of the YouTube videos you’d like to play or share, paste them into SongSprite and then you will be able to listen to them or send a link to your newly created playlist to whoever you like.

    SongSprite allows you to connect, collaborate and share playlists in real time with your friends.

    The process of creating a playlist is SongSprite is extremely simple.

    How Do I Use SongSprite?

    The first place you need to go is YouTube and start browsing for music you would like to add to your new playlist.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/1_songsprite.jpg?54167" alt="" width="553" height="510" />

    Once you find a song that you like, just go up and copy the URL for it. Shortened links won’t work, so make sure the URL you grab is of normal length. Paste the link into the box on SongSprite and click the Add button to the right. If you’re using class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tags/chrome/">Google Chrome as your browser, the class="vt-p" href="http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-extremely-chrome-extensions-life-easier/">Split Screen extension would be great for this. Check it out.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/2_songsprite.png?54167" alt="" width="287" height="200" />

    You’ll know you entered the information correctly because it will place the name of the song into your list below. You can keep adding songs in this way until you are happy with the playlist you’ve created.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/3_songsprite.png?54167" alt="" width="307" height="100" />

    To share your playlist once it is done, just copy the URL below the player and paste it in an email or IM, or click the Share icon to send the link to Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, or StumbleUpon.

    class="aligncenter" src="http://main.makeuseoflimited.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/4_songsprite.png?54167" alt="" width="328" height="46" />

    Conclusion

    While having the ability to take content from YouTube and listen to it via a site like SongSprite is extremely convenient for all of us, I doubt that YouTube would really take kindly to this type of “extension”, seeing as none of YouTube’s ads or copyright permissions seem to come with the music you’re getting with the service. Having said that, I do think SongSprite is a great resource and a site that I could see myself using again and again. I invite you all to check it out and let me know what you think.
